not sure I agree with this decision

I know I said there were issues with the copy protection, but that was about unlocks on the weekend, the other aspects were good I thought

I guess it might be less annoying in that you can save any cool noodlings you come up with in demo mode

Makes no sense to me. Maybe because I am not as average as I think I am. It must only be aimed at a minority of the user base, the above average users. I figure if I blocked out everything that was not neccesary to keep my average life ticking over I would get 1.5 hrs per day on most days to trial something (that would also mean everything else recreation/serious hobby would come to a stand still). Now providing murphy's law doesn't kick in, thats about 20hrs over two weeks. Just over 3hrs per part I put about that amount of time in (20hrs), start to finish just researching and buying hard drives. Trailing a full version of software.....?

So how many times can you apply for a trial serial number?

I think maybe you misuntestood something there...
As far as I understand it the demo is still Time unlimited but you can get your trial serial which lets you use live as if you bought it but only for 14 days (that means you can save, render and all the things that don't work in the normal demo)

That's at least how I understood it

where do you get the time unlimited one? the demo download section has been replaced with the new one

Yea - because they would have to re-write a lot of code to change that function of the program.

maybe it should be "14 day full version trial" instead of "Demo for 14 days"

Isnt it part of the program - if you dont enter serial numbers & unlock you are unable to save anything

The only reason I ended up buying an Ableton product was because a piece of gear I bought was shipped with the Lite version of live. It was also shipped with protools. PT would not let me save anything and come back to it and truely 'build' some experience before laying down my hard earned freight. If all you had on average was 3hrs to trail something that was totally new, try it on for size, isolate some blocks, ask a few questions on the forum, get some feed back, sort through it all, deal with possible conflicts etc etc, would you then shell out in faith?

Talk about a hard sell.

They still have lite products in with some soundcards & int6erfaces ETC,

And i dont think anything has changed, they have just added to it. Instead of a demo mode that you just cant save, they have now included a 14 day trial serial so you can save for 2 weeks.


then you carry on using in demo mode with save disabled.

Unless you have another email address that you could get another trial serial.

Seems like you resent the idea that people can use the product free for two weeks. I think it is a great idea for the very reason you stated-that you can save any noodlings. I think it would attract more customers and just think if you have 26 different email addresses, you can use the product free for one year, wait for the next version and start all over again. Looks like I won't need to update to Live 7 for a while.

Seems like you resent the idea that people can use the product free for two weeks. I think it is a great idea for the very reason you stated-that you can save any noodlings. I think it would attract more customers and just think if you have 26 different email addresses, you can use the product free for one year, wait for the next version and start all over again. Looks like I won't need to update to Live 7 for a while.

Why the original post/complaint then if you don't care that much and why should it matter that they change the system?

Seems like a good idea to me, my only concern would be a new flood of cracked software onto torrents etc. with all those serial numbers being harvested. Still, I'm sure Abes have thought of this and have some form of a plan to thwart this. Although they are requiring you to register for a serial, you are only registering name, email addy and country, anyone can set up a freeweb account on a webcafe or library computer and obtain this stuff without being (easily) tracked.

I think it only adds to their service. Brilliant with a 14 day fully functional trial. As they say: "The first hit is free - then you're hooked."

But what about the 7.05 version? Or is the only thing changed the trial mode?
