Trigger finger only works on one of my usb ports. wtf?

Ok, so I was using my buddies trigger finger on my macbook pro. It always worked fine and then all of a sudden it didn't work. Live recognized the device as being plugged in, and I had all the settings setup in the midi/control surface preferences. Yet it just wouldn't trigger any notes and the controls wouldn't midi learn. It was so frustrating as it was at a gig and it it always worked fine before.

After lots of testing I realized it didn't work on the usb port on the right side of my macbook pro, but worked fine on the left side usb. Same settings exactly and notes triggered fine and knobs worked. All my other midi devices work fine on either port - My Novation 37SL, my behringer keyboard, my O2. In fact I normally have a hub connected to that very usb port (The right hand side one), where all my usb devices are connected to).

So it seems the port is fine, but I don't understand how a device could not work on one port but be fine on another.

Anyone else experienced this?

PS - I'm on leopard and 2.16 ghz mbp.

I have in the past had a similar problem with my TF. (as i type this i have heard the usb port ping-pong the TF off and then back on, meaning i have to restart live , again)

It wouldnt work on the side USb's of my laptop (a PC toshiba). Turns out to be something to do with powered USB's, and now i have to plug it into a back USB thorugh a USB hub (one of the 2quid ones from ebay).

if you do a search for trigger finger and usb, im sure you'll find a lot of people have experienced the sam ething. i can sympathise with you.

Yeah, I get weird USB things with my Griffin Powermate.

When I turn my computer on it decides which port it wants the Powermate to work on that day. I have to try them all till I find the one that works.

Very strange

I had the same problem - trigger finger would quit working until I unplugged it and plugged it back in, then it would work for another 5 minutes. It works fine on the left side through the cheapest usb hub I could find, tho'.

I had the same problem with the IK Multimedia StealthPlug. For whatever reason it only liked one of my USB ports. Everything else works fine in either.

But on a mac, there are no drivers to install. So unfortunately I can't do that.

Come to think of it, I think I may have had some weirdness with my stealthplug once when I plugged it into that one too.

there are mac drivers to download on the m-audio site (about 400 versions for each osx update).. maybe you should try them?...
