CC control of crossfader instead of discrete?

In Live 7, if I got to map the crossfader to a CC control, Ableton wants three separate midi controls - one for far left, one for center, one for far right - this would be fine if I wanted to use the keyboard to quickly cut back and forth, but I want the whole crossfader to be able to take continuous data, same as any other knob or fader - what's the deal?

assign to the middle control, just tried it, works fine.

yeah, i'm an idiot, but i swear that didn't work yesterday. it is nice to have triggers for hard cuts though.

CCs work fine here. I use BCR buttons for 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 and 128-beat smooth crossfades, as well as direct cuts left and right, and instant centering.
I've got far more creative things to do than move a crossfader back and forth!
