Essentially this program just locks the speedstepping on intel processor laptops at the fastest clock speed, I believe this can also be accomplished by going to power schemes and setting it to "always on" or maximum performance if you're on a dell.

SpeedswitchXP gives you slightly more control. It's a good app.
* secretly hoping for something similar for OSX having tried out Coolbook *

Both of these apps have a considerable drawback compared to the inbuild speedstepping of Windows (aka power-scheme Laptop, Energy Saving etc): they need to run at realtime priority in user-mode and thus use more resources. I had been using RMClock for quite a while until I realized that whenever it's turned on I get regular sound-buzz with Ableton Live, which happens far less when using Windows' build in schemes (though I still turn it to "Desktop" or "Always On" when I am working on performance relevant sets).
The better configurability is great though, and only by such software you can slow down an AMD A64 to 4x speed and lowest voltage settings whereas the inbuild function of Windows will only drop down to 5x.
