Hello,

I'm looking to launch my effects only when my keys are held in, instead of having to hit the key to turn the effect on, and hit it again to turn it off. Could anybody help with this? I'm using an Axiom 25. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Running Ableton 6.0.10 on OS X 10.5.2

I know that this is not exactly what you're after. In a certain song I use a very significant delay effect on only some vocal lines. For this I put the on/off switch onto - a switch pedal. Most MIDI keyboards offer an input for a switch, get a cheap one and solve the problem that.
I have read that with note commands it is not possible to do it the way you need. With a midI controller with button's you'll be successful then.

I suggest a combination of Dummy Clips and the Gate launch mode.

A clip has 4 launch modes, one of them is "gate" and just lets a clip play when a note is pressed. The clip stops when you release it.

This should be easy - just set the note on and note off to the same value. It'll be like a one switch toggle.

Key down - Turn effect on
Key Up - Turn effect off

EVEN BETTER - set upa wet/dry rack (check out Covops) in front of your effect, set the note on value to 127, and the note of value to 0, and you've got exactly what you're after.

How do i go about setting the note on/off value? I was trying w/ enigma, but can't find out how

It's in the axiom manual - it's available on the website. You need to change the MSB and LSB values. Easily done on the hardware.

I tried setting the midi cc of the keys to 146 (note on/off), however, it seems the white keys cannot be programmed to midi cc data. I think i can change the LSB/MSB (although i'm not sure), if so, what would i change both to 127 for htis effect? Or is it not possible if i can't change the midi cc data?

If that won't work (sorry I'm not more help, I'm at work and don't have Live or Axiom here!) try using Bomes to convert a note on/note off to the same midi controller.

any ideas for mac users? still struggling with the MPD...

My favorite way to do this is with a MIDI feedback loop (MIDI yoke) and a MIDI track in Ableton.

Set up a midi rack in said track, and have two chains - one empty and one with a notelength plugin on it. (Set it to OFF).

Tell the track to send midi to "Midi Yoke 1" or something.

Then have Live listen for that device.

Fun stuff!
