Telefon Tel Aviv live

yesterday been to their gig where they played material from their forthcoming album, mostly.
fo those interested - it is nothing like their previous releases. they have gone from clicks&cuts to more electro stylee, however their magic hand on beats still feels good. and they BOTH sing!

however, i have to admit that as much as i'm all over their studio releases - i'm really not impressed by the live act as is.. they were unfortunately very static, and on older songs (each beat of which i know by heart) they seemed to only twist a filter or a beatrepeat occassionally((

i guess i have no right whatsoever to bark at the giants, but i thought i'd share my feelings that when a performer really ACTS the show - that makes a world of difference and much bigger impact on us mere mortals...

however, they did a fucking magnificent remix of apparat's "arcadia", to which i couldnt help but dance and scored a nice girl as a result, so thanks)

still looking forward to the new album!

I think this should override all the negatives, no?

Hung out with them during/after the soundcheck, they had to spend a lot of time fucking with the rented nordlead (it wouldn't take their card where all the sounds were stored). And yes, the macbook was running Live. :)

cheers man! you been there! :D
do you know if they had any more problems with sound? it sounded like through a cotton wall on the dancefloor.. which is totally not something you expect from TTA...

these guys fell off the good production train right after their first record and have yet to get back on it. which is a f'in tradgedy because that first record is genius. no one wants to hear about how your day beat my year or a house beat. seriously. get it together TTA.

I have two of their albums which I think are beautiful.
I'd love to catch a gig of theirs and score a beautiful, intelligent, fun girl 8)

well, it sounds like you have a good healthy idea about what qualities to look for in a girl so one day you probably will 8)

First album - amazing, got me into IDM for the next couple years. Second album - not as sweet but one of the few vinyls I have that sounds better than the cd release.

To the OP: When you say electro do you mean Deadmau5 electro or Cybotron electro?

hmmm.. i dunno either of them.. it's like.. very straightforward old-school drum machine beats, old-school synth arpeggios and pads, and whining vocals on top drowned in delay and reverb...

there's a new song on their myspace which, to me, really shows the direction they have gone on the new album, judging from Josh sayng "we will be playing mostly our new album tonight". so it appears it'll be all in that canvas.. dark, dull, minor, moody..

it is defenitely not in that TTA style we loved them in the first place.
but who gives a fuck about the style if the music is good?
even though in the first place, the new stuff hadn't stroke a chord on my strings - my credit of trust to TTA is enough to buy this album to see if it grows on me.

PS: 'a map of what is effortless' is one of my favorite albums of all time. i can listen to it again and again, each time hearing another little detail i haven't noticed before, and it's all in that perfect compositional environment which never bores..

If Deadmau5 = Electro, then Danny Tenaglia = Death Metal. Deadmau5 is not electro.

Aside from the peculiarities of that room (I played there once, and some frequencies were jumping out like crazy), they made a decision to mix from the stage and go out as a stereo pair, which probably accounts for part of it...

I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately most people do not know the difference. Deadmau5 is electrohouse which is neither electro or house.

Well some people on here think Portishead is Hip Hop. So there you go.
