I'm starting a series of (hopefully) weekly patches, presets, racks and tools for Live, and probably for some other plugins, software and hardware in the future.

I'm starting a series of patches and presets for Live.

The first one is a Simpler Rack meant to create a guitar sound off a snare sample. I built this a while ago based on the DiViNCi guitar on MPC video.

Weeklyish Patch 01 - M-Axe

This week's racks are up for grabbing.

They're different flavors of NY Style Compressors made off Live's compressors, giving you the ability to easily mix a compressed copy of a signal with the original uncompressed version. Great effect for drum tracks and drums and bass groups.

Weeklyish Patch 02 - NY Style Compressor

New rack up.

This time, it's an extended version of Impulse, mapped chromatically from C1. It allows 16 different drum parts, each with 4 samples, allowing very easy drums layering.


Weeklyish Patch 03 - Layering Impulse

This week's rack is a mean sound destruction machine. Choose the distortion type, dial in the gain and tone, and watch the paint on the walls peel off.

Awesome stuff, that impulse rack looks sweet!

I prefer Impulse to simpler/sampler drum racks for working with, and this rack looks like an ideal "halfway house" between the two.

This time, I've added a Dub Delay I've been using a lot lately. Just stick it in a return track and use it's own send knob as feedback control.


Weeklyish Patch 05 - Dub Delay

New rack up. This time it's a lows and highs exciter.

Load it in a Return track and it’ll allow adding some distortion to the highs and lows and mixing them nicely with the clean signal, helping bring out some top harmonics and rounding out the bottom.

Weeklyish Patch 07 - Smart Knobs v.1

Smart knobs rock! I love the beat repeat effect, it gets great results!

I really like putting 8 different "smart knobs" into one rack, so you've got a ton FX instant for your tracks. Mapping it so one knob turns the effect on AND controlling the intensity of the effect is great. Practical, and full of variation.

Along the same lines I've created a Smart Mixer. If you do Live DJ'ing mashup type stuff you might really like it. Drop one on each channel and set your routing via sidechain. This allows you to choose which track has the prominent bass, mid, or high. To the bass of track 1 pushes down the bass of track 2 instantly, so you don't have to manually eq it out.
