499 for new instrument!

Man that is expensive. Ableton seem to get more and more expensive with every release of a product. You can buy Kontact with a 32gig library for just over half that price. I love the thoughts of having everything integrated but 499!

What does everyone else think?

I guess you mean the orchestral instrument collection (since that's the only thing at that price)? I think it is supposed to be more comparable to something like the VSL special edition, rather than the kontakt library. At least for kontakt 2 (I don't have 3) the orchestral samples are nice, and very usable, but are not a substitute for a real set of orchestral samples.

The real question is what Live users would actually want a real set of orchestral samples that are necessarily integrated with Live (& Live's midi capabilities and lack of notation editor). I would think most of these people are doing their MIDI editing in a different program. But that is a marketing question, not a pricing question.

The question is: Would you buy it if it were cheaper?

i'm confused. so what's the diff between orchestral instruments and essential instruments that come with the suite? Now let's all whine in unison...

"With the suite i thought i was getting the end all be all with the Ableton sampled instruments, which is why I got the suite, and now they are coming out with better sampled instruments? Let's just say I get the Orchestral Instruments, and then they come out with SuperDuper Orchestral instruments? whahphaphwhawhawhawhahahwaa." <-- that last part is from the Peanut's Elementary Schoolteacher Sample Library, only $899

i too would like to know what the differnce is between EIC2 and the new orchestral instruments library. I am especially curious about the difference in strings since you can get that one for $189 which is all i would need from the library.

It shows which sampled instruments actually come with the EIC if you look for the * on the OIC page. This hurts - $600 US for Orchestral Instrument Collection of which I already own part of through EIC 2?

I'll pass. Where's the vocoder? haha

And here's all the stuff users actually *want* and, in some cases, have been waiting for over a considerable length of time:

I'm curious if anyone has bought the orchestral content (not EIC)

Can you use the EIC samples easily within other samplers or programs?
I don't think so, right?
I'd be hesitant to spend that amount.
I would think the East West libraries would be the direction to go if you are spending in that range.

I am so pissed-off by this. I would have expected an upgrade for my investment instead. I will have to think twice about giving my money away as easily to this company in the future.
