I'm going, this will be my 3rd year. I'm a little concerned regarding myspace's presence... I wonder if the crowd will be different.

yeah, ,I thought that was a little corny too. Myspace is pretty damn corny for music festivals... any of their promo stuff is terrible actually

I played the DEMF the first year with Binary Star, the second year with Subterraneous Records(Binary's original label) and 2004 with Sleeper Cell Records(My label). They dont do much experimental/hardcore Hip Hop any more. It's a damn shame!
But it is what it is...
Did I hear Carl Craig was runnin it this year?

Eh. No I'm probably not in any scene at all.
And I am sorry to burst you're bubble, but this little city festival of your's hasn't really made it's name heard here on the other side of the atlantic. Even though I understand that it should have. I mean it's sponsored by both
Red Bull Music Academy and Myspace.

Do you hear this guy? Hasn't made it's way to the other side of the Atlantic? What are you on? The Detroit Electronic Music Festival is right up there with Sonar and Mutek as being the biggest weekend type events on the planet that feature electronic music. Surely you are taking the piss?
Hasn't made it's way to your side of the Atlantic!!!!!
That's a good one. Tell that to Vladislav Delay, Nitzer Ebb, The Orb, Luciano, Michael Mayer, Monolake, Speedy J, Photek, Richie Hawtrin, Steve Bug, so on and so forth. Those are just a few names of performers living on your side of the pond that have played DEMF over past couple of years.
Throw in all the classic Detroit guys like Mills, Saunderson, Atkins May, Carter, etc. etc. and you have the blueprint for a blowout party.
Oh yeah, and up until a couple years ago the event was FREE.
As far as the sponsorship who really gives a fuck? Past DEMF's have been sponsored by Ford or GM. Makes no difference to me if I can walk in and watch about 50 artists in a weekend that I would pay to see play all by themselves.
I like being obscure too but discrediting an amazing festival as being something only us Americans are into is silly and flat out irresponsible.
Here's the attendance figures over the years:
DEMF 2000: 1.1 to 1.5 million *
DEMF 2001: 1.7 million *
DEMF 2002: 1.7 million *
Movement 2003: 630,000
Movement 2004: 150,000 **
Fuse-In 2005: 44,920 ***
Fuse-In 2006: 41,000 ****
So I hate to burst your bubble but if you are not familair with the Detroit Electronic Music Festival then you are pretty much on your own. Seriously, how many Europeans that surf the Ableton boards haven't heard of DEMF?
I think you are a party of one my friend.

Hey Lo-fi, in other news, you should check out this product called a Roland TB-303. I hear it's pretty good at creating basslines for electronic music.
I'm pretty sure people have heard of those in Europe but maybe since it's been featured on a few albums by American recording artists I'm just being close minded. Dunno.
