I am looking to get into dnb/jungle production and want to find an efficent way to slice breaks. I have NI Reaktor and Kontakt but I can't seem to make them slice beats.

Does anyone have some good advice about how to go about slicing beats?

By the way I'm running ableton 6...

which version of reaktor are you using? in v5 theres an ensemble called 'beatslicer2' and it slices beats for you. haven't used kontakt but i'd imagine you can do it in that also...

kontakt has an ill beat slicer. I'd flick through the manual or check the Kontakt forums.

You're using Live, Reaktor and Kontakt and can't figure out how to slice beats?

I'm definently not an elitist, but maybe music production isn't for you.

I'm pretty new to NI stuff, and first and foremost I consider myself to be a musician, I struggle a little bit with learning the fiddlier side of shit... But I know how to slice beats - I just need to be able to open the program, its just a hassle coz I don't have my handbook.

But honestly man that's a pretty negative thing to say considering you've never heard my music. Music is a positive thing, so maybe you should consider changing your attitude.

if your looking to just mix up some beats,

i've always had the best luck just slicing my beats up in live's arange view.

highlight the part of the beat you want, ctrl-e to seperate it, ctrl d to duplicated it, slide it around, or click the reverse button to reverse that part.

with live's envalopes, you can acurately control the effects on each part.


or, if you want, you can chop the beat up, then drop it into sampler, or impulse

Definitely consider upgrading to Live 7 - the slice to new MIDI track thing is wicked

then once you've upgraded buy or rent the tutorial videos in my sig to see what you can do with it!

works well for me In fact this is how i make all my beats. cant stand looking at midi blocks. i want to see the waveforms! And i think im free thursday stonee. I'll give ya a shout.
