Just wanna say thanks to Machinate for doing that
Phase Music Tutorial. Made me discover Steve Reich; ordered the
Phases - a Nonesuch Retrospective . And I'm very happy with my new acquaintance. Nice box.
Thanks.

Steve Reich is pure brilliance. I'm a huge fan of Music for 18 Musicians and the Different Trains album - especially Electric Counterpoint (which then spawned into a huge following for Pat Metheny).

Yep thanks to Machinate for this - I still haven't had a chance to give it a proper go yet but am really looking forward to it. Also cheers for the Amazon link, found it
here on Play - €25 ain't bad for 5 CDs. I already have half of them from eMusic & they make for good listening. Seriously relaxing too.

I worked with steve reich on his 70th birthday celebrations.
He is a bit mad as he stands next to the sound desk always pushing violins right up, as he has lost most of his hi freq hearing.
Basically you have to label a desk so that he pushes a blank channel, but he is a very nice man

I wasn't there when they recorded violin phase, and he wasn't there for the mixdown. I did take some lessons with him when I was doing my Grad work.
I'm not kidding about his being a fan of the Ramones...he went on and on for an hour about the Ramones and their use of PHI/golden ratio...
