The Ultimate DJ Effects Rack?

Wondering what you guys are using in your DJ effects rack in ableton for on the fly laptop set editing. Right now I am using effectrix (for effects sequencing), copyshop (for over the top beat repeating, beat repeat, EQ Three (for quick high end and bottom end muting), a delay send, and a reverb send. Any other suggestions? I would like to have something that actually freezes and restarts the song for manual beat repeating. All the aforementioned effects dont actually stop the song playing, the just insert the effect while the song still chugs along. Any suggestions for that or other plugins or effects?

Well, if you want the song to pick up playing from the same place again after stopping and starting it, you'd have to either trigger a second loop (extremely tricky!) or stop transport. And I cannot recommend stopping transport during a live show ever. The other option would be trimming the signal until it goes away, then bring it back with the same process in reverse, by raising the gain.

For cool DJ type sounds there is a rack in one of the old live packs - must be over a year old - called instant remix that did quite a decent job. The default version sound kind of cheesy, pretty much like a crappy remix, but got quite nice with very minor tweaking.

That rack had 5 or 6 levels of messed-upedness as you moved along the selector, and the highest one pretty much deconstructs the track into its component parts. Have a look at that, if you don't find it in any of the livepacks I can check around if I still have a copy. My live library has has major reconstructive surgery since then and I can't find it just now.

Cheers,

Chris

it was actually in a pretty good live pack if i remember, not sure which anymore, but definitely free from ableton

i can also recommend checking out tarekith's racks. i also like having a ping pong delay on a send and the dblue glitch effect running as vst. dblue glitch is da shit, i can emulate some kind of scratch sounds with this one...
