Please help with Vocal Recording question

I'm using a condenser mic, and can record vocals just fine, my question is how do I apply compression, EQ, etc... on my vocal track. The raw vocals sound like crap, how do I get more of what you hear on the radio.
I know there are many, many different settings, so I'm basically looking for a "standard" vinalla setting that I can build on.
Please give back some detail I can follow.

-10dB threshold, 2:1 ratio, fast attack, timed release.
You don't need to get it compressed to fuck like a broadcast voice over, just need to tame the dynamics a bit. Of course this all depends on the performance as well.
Shouldn't have to EQ voice really if recorded properly, but if you need some extra air to it, boost 14-16kHz with a fairly wide parametric band around 3dB or so...

good sounds start with good source material, not using FX to polish turds, maybe you can spend more time with the mic and learn to use it better??
