I have the AKG's since two years - never disappointed.

Don't know the Audio Technica.

Did you consider a pair of Beyerdynamic ? A friend of mine has the DT 990.
Great Headphones and more action in the lows than the AKG.

I've had the AT ones, they are nice. I just got a pair of Bose and I'm really happy with them.

I bought the triport (BOSE), the sound is great, you don't get tired after hours of use but...they are too weak, broke after a week, I replaced them and...2 weeks later they broke again ( I wasn't doing anything at all and my ears aren't giant  ), I called BOSE and they would send me a new pair after 4-6 weeks...I didn't want to wait that long so I used tape to fix them. Now I use the SHURE's earphones (E3)...I'm very happy.

990-Pro !

I compared them to the 770 pro, bass is way better! (770pro too much) and more transparent, clearer.

I think the akg is great for classical music or rock, but unuseable for electronic music because of its lack of bass.

best

I just ordered these.

I wanted some closed cans and these have some good reviews. I've been using the Sennheiser HD 580's so I'll see how they compare.

i use a bunch of different phones...audio-technica ath-m40fs, stanton dj2000, shure e3s. i tend to work at night a lot and i often make the kind of music that would drive my wife and kid batsh*t. i tend to switch between the different phones quite a bit in order to get a better perspective on what the mix sounds like. not ideal, but i don't have much of a choice for now.

the e3s are pretty cool...block out a lot of sound (handy when working in certain environments), sound excellent, and are very small and portable.
they bug a lot of peoples' ears, though - i got these used off a friend who couldn't get a comfortable fit with them. anyway...i use these in the studio, take them along to live gigs in case the monitors stink (which is pretty often), and use them for field-recording as well.

the stantons are cheap, but sound pretty good for the money. i originally bought them to have a set of on-the-go phones because they fold up and i wouldn't be too bothered if they got destroyed. anyway...they've been essentially replaced by the e3s.

the ath sound great...good work-horse set of studio phones, but i don't use them anywhere else.

...i guess that my point is that i'd have a look at the e3s if you can get them to fit your ears and if portability/sound isolation is at all relevant. you'll get pretty used to cleaning the ear-guck off them after a while.

go with the audio technica's.. I live in apartment and due to neighbor complaints, I've had to use these during late night sessions.. everything translates pretty well but it's also like every pair of monitors, you have to know it's characteristics.. don't forget to break them in for a a couple of days first..

Ditto on the audio-technica ath-m40fs. Great cans at a very reasonable price.

I've had mine for almost three years with no complaints; have held up well.
