best time to buy ableton

Post by JMFOne » Tue May 20, 2008 7:41 pm

I want to upgrade from live lite to the full version. Is there ever a best time to buy? e.g is it worth waiting for live 8 (if ableton sell version 7 cheaper during the live 8 launch) or do people tend to sell their liscences during the launch?

buy what you need. If you have hit a limitation with Lite that prevents you from making the music you want to make, the time is now. Doesn't make much sense to say "gosh, I could make this insane song, but I'll just wait until November to do it."

True but the price is a factor. If it means I can buy the same product £50 cheaper I will wait.

if its not worth that much of a difference to you, is it worth it at all?

Ableton won't make the current version cheaper because a new version is going to come out soon. You'll pay the same price and maybe get a free or cheap upgrade.

Price isn't the issue though. Buy it just before they release a new version because the current version should be at it's most stable. Or buy now and you'll get the bugs for free.

I guess what I am trying to get at is, I am definitely going to buy ableton at some point. I just wanted to see if people were observing trends with their pricing so I could have confidence that I was getting a good deal. I'm very tempted to wait for 8 due to the 128 parameters thing but then again, it would be nearly another 6 months until it becomes stable/reliable.

What sort of deals were going on when 7 landed?

Thanks for all your input so far though guys, I know you are trying to help me out.

We've been waiting for >128 parameters for 1,000's of years. I bought Logic.

the yearly "subscription" to the upgrade is 100-150$...

new versions tend to be released in January+- ....

if you buy after the new Version is announced then you usually get the upgrade for free...

do the math...

if you have the novation/focusrite edition of live lite, and you live in the UK, there's an upgrade deal on at the moment:
If you own a copy of Ableton Live Lite (as featured in Focusrite and Novation's Xcite and Xcite+ packs), for a limited period only (1st May until June 30th 2008), you can upgrade to a full boxed version of Ableton Live 7 for just £199.99 inc VAT, a saving of £150.00 on the usual Live 7 full version price*. The best time to buy is immediately after the Apocalypse, and right before Jesus comes back to take the worthy to Heaven and leave all you filthy non-believing Ableton Live users behind.

that'll be a great day. we can finally legalize marijuana and keep the bars open 24/7, lots more gigs and events, no more getting strip searched before hitting a big event either.

where the fuck is that Jesus guy anyway? does he need a ride? can someone go pick him up? can we page him? got his celly?

All I know is that when Jesus DOES return, and all the Southern Baptists and Evangelicals see that he's not white, there's going to be hell to pay.

the best time to buy is while you're a student.
Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.
