Hi guys
questions for those of you who have the BCR2000
Can I use the buttons too, or only the knobs, within Ableton Live?
Each time I assign one of the buttons using the MIDI learn feature, it doesnt work
Any idea?
Thx!

I don't know what you are doing wrong exactly, but I can tell you: It works. I mapped my buttons to different things in Live, never had any problems.

get a midi analysis application and check that the buttons are sending out midi
MIDIOX is a good free one for pc

In my BRC
ALL buttons send midi, including edit, save, presets etc.
It's nice to have more buttons to send midi, but it's kinda drawback that i can't change presets or go to edit mode.
There is probably no way to reset the BCR as the resetting needs those buttons

Try pressing the button you want to assign twice. The buttons might be used as notes in your BCR preset, and by pressing an already lighted button, you're sending a note off message which, iirc, does nothing when assigning them (that's how it is in other software I use, can't remember if it's the same in Live).

I'm guessing you haven't go the toggle settings correct.
When you press the button does it say "on" or "off" on the lcd screen or nothing at all?
If you are setting buttons to your mutes for eg you will need to set toggle to on on the controller

And they must send cc, not notes.

Make sure also that you are not trying to use any of the four "encoder group" buttons, or the Store, Edit, Learn, or Exit buttons (unless u have a setup similar to Freekster). The others shoud work though.
Aside from Agstrom's suggestion of using a MIDI analysis utility u can also check using BCRs Edit mode to see if they are sending CCs or notes. See manual for details.

How have u got this running exactly? This is exactly what I want to do!
Maybe start a new thread and PM me the link so as not to hijack this thread?
Maybe it's possible to reset the BCR via sysex dump maybe using BCedit or similar.

toggle on off just works with correct Feedback with the BCF 2000 as a control surface, I can midi learn these buttons and then they loose the buttons loose the function as control surface, but works....

Also make sure that in the BCR preset you're using, all the buttons you want to use are set to work at all! Some preset have a lot of buttons set to off. In editing mode of the button, turn the first of the top row encoders untill you see 'CC'. Then you can set the rest the way you want. Don't forget to store

BTW, does anyone know how to hard reset the BCR?
Without Edit&Save etc. buttons?

you need "bc manager". takes a while to get into, but man is it worth it. you can do almost ANYTHING including defining ranges, setting up multi-function buttons and even changin how the led's work. do yourself a favor and GET this amazing (free) software. works with bcr and bcf. don't have a link, so google it.
