..but he's a joke as a DJ.

Encore is playing a movie of him DJing called Big Beach Boutique. I've caught about 4 mixes and each one isn't a mix. He just slams into the next track and quickly fades the last.

I can't believe he'd DJ in front of 10's of thousands of people and do that bullshit. Pathetic.

disc jockey
–noun
1. a person who conducts a radio broadcast consisting of recorded music, informal talk, commercial announcements, etc.
2. a person who selects, plays, and announces records at a discotheque.

Where in the dictionary definition does it mentions mixing between tracks or beat matching?

Is he throwing down good tracks? Is he rocking the crowd? Is he using his producer fame to get himself gigs? Is he making a load of cash because people want to see him

I'm sure he is!

Drop it Mr Cook

He's the best DJ I've seen, Glastonbury 2005

I wasn't listening for the beat-matching though, I was just groovin to the vibe & freakin out at the lighting show (3D specks were handed out and with them on you could see smiley-faces drifting around! While Norman was in a giant stereo, in the tape casette part. It was mental!).

My 13-year old can beatmatch and move EQ and filter sweep dials and a crossfader. Big deal.

It's all about what's pumping out of the loudspeakers and connecting with the crowd.

Being a good dj is not all about your beat matching skills, its about your track selection too!

Norman Cook and also Giles Peterson know this, which is why people go to see them.

I have that Tivo'd and I've seen it like a million times, plus hosted parties with that playing in the background

it's actually pretty good - I bet on his worst day djing he'll rock a crowd 10 times harder than most of us on our best days

and not all of his mixes are bad - there are some jams he plays in that show I'm still looking for...seriously...and the movie is old

don't hate the player, hate the game

I'm just saying that I'd expect more from him. The thirty minutes that I watched wern't very good. The crowd was rocking, but I'd expect that from most Fatboy Slim fans.

Every new track he played was just slammed it. No attempt at mixing or smoothly going in to the next track. Most of the new tracks he brought in didn't even go well with the previous song.

It's just disappointing when you expect more from a superstar DJ and it falls short.
