hi i am using live to track and arrange with i love it for this purpose. i am going to take my project to a commercial studio and have it mixed. the gentleman who is doing the mixing prefers to use digital performer. via rewire can i take individual track outs from live and route them to individual tracks in performer, or does it just accept master stereo. i have used performer quite a bit but its been a couple of years just got tired of the workflow in it and the thousands of windows option. i can do this with reason to live, but i did not know if other daws can, performer ,pro tools or logic also. with the hourly price of setting up a project and importing files and making sure everything is in it right place. and the editing i could do in performer before i take it in. to buy it would probably pay for its self. thanks to all

I don't know how it behaves with DP via rewire, but you can render all tracks individually in one go, if that helps.

Rewire allows you to take the stereo mix or any of the individual track channels, you just decide which channels are being routed by the rewire master (in this case DP).

In Cubase there is a rewire menu and you click on the Live /Reason/whatever you're rewiring etc. channels (pressing the Power On icon and then it turns green) you want and they appear automatically as rewire channels in the mixer in Cubase. Just remember that if you are running vsts/aus in Live, they will not be available via rewire but any audio tracks, or Live devices *such as Impulse, drum racks, simplers etc* are fine. (you can save the MIDI file and use vsts within DP, or render these tracks to audio and use the audio track via rewire)

Rewiring lots of channels is very CPU intensive, so the other option is to render all your audio tracks using the render all *L6* or export all *L7* and your tracks will all be rendered to individual audio tracks which you just import into the host's DAW.

i guess what i am wanting to do is just take track one from from live to track one in dp track two in live to track two in dp etc etc. just like im recording the whole live session individual track outs in to dp individual tracks. i guess that means i have to freeze tracks and print midi and effects etc. but dp is just so i can take it to the studio for mixing it would be easier this way than importing files etc. thanks

In Cubase, rewire channels are treated as seperate channels from regular audio, but they can follow the track numbers in Live (i.e. rewire ch 1 is ch 1 from Live, or you can rename the channels), so it's still a cinch to do it that way.

I don't know if DP handles rewire any differently. Live handles it differently in that you can use a regular audio track rewired from (reason or fruity loops or whatever) and just change the track input selection to match the desired rewire channel.

Either way it should be easy and viable. Additionally, the studio will need to have both programs installed on their machine (Live and DP) in order for rewire to function, so if that is not the case, rendering audio tracks will be necessary.
