is there a how/to or book or an sdk out there?

The M-audio website has an SDK that you can download for free, I think. I don't know anything about software development kits so I could be leading you up the garden path.....

Before you can download the SDK you will need to read over our license agreement as well as complete a form with your name and contact information. Both of these steps are important so please don’t “click by” them, spend the time to read and understand what you are getting.
