Anybody read Computer Music Magazine?

If so, have you found that many of their VSTs don't work on your intel Mac? It seems that the PPC VSTs work on my PowerBook (yes, my PPC) but not my Intel Mac mini. Like the CM101.

never had problem using, but the free stuff was mostly poo, IMHO.

It's good stuff for a beginner though.

Its my no1 magazine to read on the toilet.

I still luv em! A lot of the free VST's are great! Never had a problem, but then again I'm a P.C geezer

I like rachMiel's column.

Some of the VST's don't work right - Astralis CM comes to mind.

Astralis version 1 worked, but the newer model doesn't work for me.

Zebra CM is awesome! Not sure if it works on Mac though...

Shoot, ZebraCM and the BFD "Lite" were worth wading through all the beginner stuff. These are not cripple- or expire-ware but fully working subsets of Zebra2 and BFD 1.

They have had the desired effects, however, of getting me interested in the full versions of those apps.

yeah its a great magazine, alot of the more beginner stuff is great when starting out
but after a few months its not of much help

stuff i enjoy in it:

Rachmiels experimental articals
scot solidas synth stuff

the reviews the Q&A at the back

and the samples, sometimes good, other times not so good

and the product reviews arnt too bad

Was a fantasic aid to my early production days though currently I tend to only buy if it I like the look of the issue.

Not been too impressed with some of the samples on the DVD of late; Mostly the genre specific ones such as DnB, Techno etc...though some of the more obscure offerings arn't too bad.

The 'sound like' and other lessons tend be a bit hit and miss and its best to listen to the audio examples before tackling any of the tutorials as many are pretty crap.

Can be realy good for insights into what the pros use/do, sometimes featuring some proper underground artists like yer man Shitmat..

Tbh I think the main appeal for me is to be able sit back and read something instead of staring at a monitor....

I do sometimes feel for readers outside of the UK though as it is quite parochial for a magazine thats read worldwide.

I absolutely love it. Can't get enough. Going back to basics never gets old for me. Or, i'm just so thick I still can't get it straight!

In the most recent issue, Booka Shade claim to use CM's free synth for a track of there's. I wonder if it is BS...

sorry, cm is one of the shittiest magazines out there. period.
and yes. even for beginners it is crap.
why do people always think of cheap and faulty or inaccurate stuff (gear, sound libraries, magazines) is fine for you if you're a starter?

Most of the free plug-ins were created long before intel macs came about, and have yet to be ported to Universal Binary.

Theres more info about it on the Music Radar forum, but it seems unlikely that they will be ported any time soon.
