What do you think music will be like in 100 years? Assuming mankind still exists, what do you think people will listen too?

Do you think it will at all resemble what we hear today?

We still listen to the classical geniuses. Can you guess any musician that from the last 20 years that might still be listened too if man is around in 2108?

Pretty sure there will be man around in another 100 years.

Might be tapping on a few sticks and clapping hands for some music though.

Maybe even a whistle.

The use of electricity, or power of any sort will be banned.

I'm looking forward to the end of fossil fuels.

Ragtime is going to make a revival.

On top of the charts on July 1st 2108 will be a barbershop quartet, doing the greatest hits of the Prodigy.

music wont last another 100 years... its just a fad

Theres a wicked interview kind of thing on a jeff mills record - think it might have been a purposemaker thing... talking about the future (including music) incrimentally - 2, 10, 15, 100 years down the line - quite cool.Ill see if i can dig out and ill post it up.

Interesting question. One more aspect that occurs to me is that for the last few hundred years before recording was possible, music was designed to be played by, for example, orchestras. What we're hearing today are essentially cover versions. Since recording was possible, the music is much more closely tied to the performer.

So while I think orchestras will still be playing Mozart or Shostakovich in 100 years time, I'm not sure whether we'll be hearing Elvis, The Beatles or Miles Davis.

I'm pretty certain it will make Venetian Snares and Meshugah seem tame.

I expect The Stones will be touring that summer.

in 100 years music will need to cover a much broader frequency range to appeal to the genetically modified bat hybrid ears we'll all have fitted. Those of us who want them that is. There are even today people who arent interested in their auditory sense. Those people will probably just go for infra-red and UV vision and polar bear nasal membranes that can smell for 20 kms

personally I refuse to die before I can have all of the above plus tentacles with suction caps fitted and those little hairs that allow spiders to walk on the ceiling. And spinnerets.
