I was going to post this here after seeing it on Gizmodo... you beat me to it.
Is it the next big thing, or is it the next Mawzer?

not even mawzer - you can get those online, after all. This one will most likely never happen.

why though? theres a video of a working prototype so maybe they'll make it open source and let people build their own or something

I'm sorry, I just dismissed it as a really really bad idea.

maybe i'm wrong, but how would this be different to having a BCR2000 set to a single preset? i mean, if you switch to a different vst on screen you have to move all your knobs don't you? i think it's a clever idea but not really practical for what we do around here...
could be good for dj'ing though?

not having to memorize what knob is connected to what would be the main reason, you just look at your screen and you can see whats controlling what. it doesn't get any closer to reaching up and grabbing your vst knobs than that.
though I don't expect to see it on the market anytime soon I guess. I still like the idea a lot though.

it's a screen that goes over your computer screen.

Interesting idea, but I think they'd be better off just developing a controller with a decent sized display (instead of just a tiny B/W dot matrix display capable of displaying maybe 10-15 characters) above each button/slider.
