If i want to sidechain compress a bass using the Kick as the audio from, whats the best way to go about this? I'm using Impulse as my drums with Kick, Snare and HH. Is there a way to separate the kick from the kit?
I can achieve this, sort of, by using the EQ in the sidechain window of the Compressor, but i'm not sure its the best way to go about it.
Thanks

You can open a new audio track and route the kick into it. Then you can put compressor on the new audio track and only be sidechaining the kick.
But since you have Live 7, you should just use Drum Racks and just drop compressor on the kick track and sidechain accordingly.

I suppose your first tip would work, but you have it backwards. I want to Sidechain compress a Bass using the kick as the controlling parameter. So i don't think your second tip applies.
Thanks for the tips though

I know your using impulse so im not so sure but it's easily done in drumrack..
add a compressor on your bass track
click on the sidechain in that compressor
from there you can route the compressor to any sound within drumracks with pre/post or mixer option.
not sure abot impullse though i never use it.

In Live 7, if you have two audio tracks, one called KICK and one called BASS, stick a compressor on the BASS track. Click the little triangle icon on the top left of the compressor plugin (next to the on/off button), and it will expand a Sidechain view. Select KICK/Post FX as the audio in and adjust the compressor threshold/ratio. You should be pumpin' in no time.

And if you really need to stick with Impulse, in the sidechain section of the comp on the bass chnl, select the channel wich contains the Impulse and then select the slot with the kick.
