The Dark Knight...And The "Watchmen" Trailer...

Okay so I've never heard "The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning" from Smashing Pumpkins before seeing "The Watchmen" trailer. That's a damn good song...attached to what was possibly the best trailer I've seen in a long damn time. Usually I'd have something to bitch about with Hollywood churning out so much trash lately (Wanted, Indiana Jones, Hulk, Hancock)....
But
The Dark Knight was absolutely one of the best IF NOT THE BEST comic book tales ever put to screen.

Right up there
(and beyond) with X-Men 2 and the first two Blades. Damn, this was THE BEST FILM to come out in YEARS. "The Joker" has officially joined my list of all time favorite villains...Hans Gruber, Castor Troy, and Tony Montana still claim the top three spots. You just don't get smart enough bad guys in movies these days u know??..and to think The Joker didn't even come with a plan.
It's hard to discuss what's so GREAT about this film without giving out key plot points. I mean we've already heard/read about the greatness in Ledger's portrayal of The Joker, but....
...Would it be wrong to say he beat out Nicholson? I think he did. I never got into the first 4 Batman flicks. The reimagining of Batman with the latest two films are more my tatse. Dark, tragic, and relying more on purpose and emotion rather than a cheap gag...not to mention too much attention given to unbelievable villains.
Just go see it for yourself. If you love a good movie OF ANY KIND you won't be dissapointed. It's a long running time, but every second is worth your attention. A FUCKING BEAUTIFUL FILM IT IS.
...And this shit had BETTER win best Oscar for Sound Editing.

Sadly, my first post on this forum and i'm not even talking about ableton....
However I got back from seeing this an hour ago, and have been waiting for someone to have started talking about this movie. MY GOD it was brilliant! Even my girlfriend who hates action movies, though I make her watch them anyways, loved it. A little long, but there is nothing that could be removed. Every scene was amazing.

I canny wait to see TDK - it's out this weeK!
Also, I've just seen the 'Watchmen' trailer. "Holy" and "Shit" both come to mind! That movie looks amazing; if they can keep it close to the book, they'll have a fantastic movie on their hands.
Only 11 months to wait... *sulk*

I have not seen Dark Knight yet, But I have the Hans Zimmer score for this film. Its also on Napster if anyof you subscribe to that.
The score is amazing. A real blend of orchestral and electronic.
I can't wait to see the film

Wasn't there a different version of that song made? Less trip-hoppy and more rocky?

Yeah I believe it's called The End is the Beginning is the End.
@ Land...I saw it on regular screen. Imax's are sold out everywhere.
The soundtrack for TDK is also amazing. I haven't seen or heard one bad review for TDK yet. Not even a lukewarm review. Brilliant!

What about the preview for Terminator 4? That looked dope too.
I saw TDK last night, thought it was great though still a little over-hyped with all the oscar comments.

+1.
TDK was good, but not as enjoyable as Iron Man or Edward Norton in Hulk. I enjoyed those two way more.

Lol! I mentioned the "lukewarm" comment just to see how fast the "not as great as they said it would be" comments pour in.
But seriously though? Not better than "Hulk"? An hour and a half of "Daddy please stop chasing my big green boyfriend?"
Well I'm not here to judge taste.

The thing is...
I'm still a WAY huge fan of the two Burton versions. Unbelievably good, and they easily stand the test of time.
I love TDK, and the first one, but there's something that bugs me about them. That something is that the characters exist in a world that's, well, OUR world.
The city of Gotham (Chicago, heh) just looks too real. All the characters, from Batman to the villains, to the bit players, are just too realistic. I know that's crazy to say, and I get what Nolan is trying to do. Examine the Batman mythos as if someone, right now, decided to put on a costume and become a super hero. I get that. Still...
There's something awesome in how crazy and insane and fucked up Tim Burton's Gotham was... It was, in many ways, closer to the comics and graphic novels. Gotham is a cesspool. It oozes slime from the gutters and bad, Bad shit happens there. It's overrun with criminals of all kinds. It's falling apart and rotting from the inside out. I get that sense in Burton's films. Nolan's Gotham looks like....well....like Chicago for fuck's sake. There's nothing sinister about it. In the comics, Gotham itself is a main character. In Nolan's films, it's just another city.
In Burton's two Batman films, anything could happen. Like all of his stuff, there's a major nightmare/fantasy feeling to the whole thing. It was dark and weird and bizarre. It's a place that other heroes might also drop by, and no one would think anything of it. Superman might show up, Green Lantern, whomever. They'd fit right in. In Nolan's Batman world, they'd look gay as shit.
I love Nolan's hyper-realistic take, but it got me thinking: You really don't even need the Bat costume and shit. They are almost afterthoughts. In many ways, the new Batman is like watching a James Bond flick - if Bond wore a hood and cape.
That's not really what it's all about for me. Burton's Batman captured that mysterious, almost supernatural part of the mythos - which is really the best part of the Batman comics.
One last thing. Joker vs Joker. I re-watched Burton's first Batman film yesteday after seeing TDK. Nicholson's version is, in many ways, just as insane and crazy as Ledger's - just more, well, comic-book like.
At the end of the day, it's really about the environment that all these characters exist in. I want my comic book characters to exist in cities on the big screen that are just a bit off-kilter and unrealistic. Stylized, if you will. Think Sin City. Awesome.
That's why I'm so hyped about Watchmen. The environments that these characters live in, at least from the trailer, capture that half-fantasy/half-real feeling of the graphic novel perfectly.
omfg. I can't believe I just wrote all that. Fucking geek.

Yeah, it was a good film. (I'm not an action movie or comic book guy, just happened to go see this. And I still think it was a good film. So as far as action movies go, it's probably great?) And my girlfriend, too, thought it was interesting enough to keep her focus through the whole thing.
And Ledger was good. But oscar caliber? come on. if so, then the movie industry is in sorry shape.
the score intrigued me as far as instrumentation/soundscape/pristine sampling and mastering. i guess movie scores are their own thing- but there certainly weren't any notable melodies, rhythms, harmonies, etc. that i'd find myself remembering or wanting to hear again (which is probably true of nearly every movie).
the sound effects were as ridiculous as every other action flick. make the smallest little move, like someone falling, which in real life would make almost no noise, into what sounds like a fucking battering ram hitting a car at 100 mph inside a concrete gymnasium. makes it so intense! not. once every little move starts to sound like an explosion, it loses any impact. ok, i'm ranting, sorry. i normally find action flicks just boring and retarded. which probably says a lot about this movie (not that anyone cares what i think), because I did like it.
i liked the tim burton ones better though - way darker.

the TDK trailers look cool, but knowing myself, i probably wont watch it until after a couple weeks, when the hype has died down a bit.
Iron Man was pretty cool. Downey is brilliant in it.

just watched it. ^totally agree. first thing i thought was gotham wasn't right, and it felt like a bond flick, which isn't a
bad thing... good flick, i don't go to the movies often, glad i did, entertaining.
