I guess it ticks to Midi Clock, but you'll have to read your manual to confirm. Assuming it does:

Connect your midi interface to the Boss with a midi cable.
Enter preferences in Live.
Go Midi/Sync tab.
Unfold the relevant (output) port - make sure it's set to Midi Clock.
Set Sync column to ON.
Close preferences.
Press play.
Tick - tock...

Make sure your Boss is set to "slave" or "external" sync.

Actually - if you take a look in the Live manual all midi preferences are rather well described there. With nice illustrations of relevant menus and all.

Welcome to the forums, by the way!

Don't expect miracles from the RC-50. What little user feedback I have read indicated that it wasn't reliable at syncing to external sources. Since external sources are all you would want to sync to, that is a bummer

But to make the hookup you make Live send sync from a MIDI port in prefs, then connect that MIDI output to the MIDI in on the RC50. Have the RC50 set to external sync, and go for it.

Simple in practice, but maybe not in reality. Please report back if you get this working reliably.

Thanks for the help.

It turns out that I had the settings correct. It's just a aimple case of the Boss rc 50 not doing what it says it does. Slaving to an external sync kinda works for the first phrase, on a full moon in July when the tide is just right.

Anyway, I am opting to go the Bomes Midi translator route, and do it all in Live.

Wish my midi inept self some luck
Thanks again for the help

it works like a charm if you adjust the sync delay. I found if you put a 60 milisecond delay (not -60) at 256 buffer size it works bang on. The whole midi problem with the rc 50 is that it is late, and with most dissatisfied users they are probably using gear that does not allow sync delay with midi, or arent even aware of this as a solution.

all the best

Hi guys, been having sync issues for a long time now and i've just come across this mail. Im using Live 8 and trying to sync both ways, mac to rc-50 or rc-50 to mac. So the problems i've come across is that when I try sync the mac to the RC-50 the tempo is constantly drifting +/- 2 bpm and it sounds very sloppy, even with buffer settings of 128. If i sync the RC-50 to the mac its a bit more stable although some bpms work, others are out by 0.1 even if I try what adhmzaiusz says. Using what adhmzaiusz says if theres a certain bpm i choose lets say 89bpm the loop pedal might show 89.1 if i tweak the midi clock sync delay i can get them to match up but if i then move to another bpm say 110 its fine but if i then move Live to 145 the loop pedal might say 144.9 so its not ideal. Are these errors a result a the crap software on the RC-50?

This is really wrecking my head and i dont remember having this issue when i was using Live version 6.
If anyone has any suggestion i would really appreciate it as i think i've tried all i can with no success.

ps. i've tried different midi interface - motu ultralite, edirol um-2, motu midi express, all with the same results. :?

I'm going to pull out my rc50 and take another look into this... i'm still using L7 and on a g4, so I will review this again after i get some sleep. I had mine working great though. I'll post between the next 2 days hopefully, my brothers birthday tomorrow not much time now.

Okay,

Using:
-a power book g4, 1.33
-midisport 2x2 (sending sync)
-motu traveler for audio
-live 7.0.10

Buffer: 256 samples
Midi clock sync delay: -55.0 milliseconds

I set the guide track on the boss rc50 to the 1/8 note high hat and set the metronome on live on, let it go for awhile(probably 10 minutes or so) and its still pretty much right on. Drifts only slightly but not much at all. I can switch tempos no problem the high hat still follows it. It actually seems to fix the tiny amount of drift when I switch tempos.

Now, when I multitrack onto the rc50 it seems to screw the tempo and make it late. And on top of that, when you switch tempos on it it doesnt pick up anymore....

Well, shows how much I use this thing :?
I don't even know why I bought it... maybe should sell it and use the money and buy L8 and a foot controller.

I guess it is usable though when you set the sync delay and don't switch tempos. When live's clock stops and you start it again it re-syncs though. If you are playing songs that are about 5 minutes or so in length I'd imagine it should be fine as long as you restart live's clock.

Anyway, best of luck to all of us

Good evening (at least here it's 19:22).
I'm new (at least here) and I'm getting crazy traing to midi sync my boss rc50 with live.
My configuration:
G4 1.5
Live4 (I love it)
Motu MKII (with midi connection to boss)
Boss RC50

I need Live playng with the same Tempo of Boss Rc50. In order to tap the tempo on Boss pedal and change at the same time live-tempo (I'll start-stop live by nanoKontrol).
I've both manual (and I read them) but I can't.

My setting:
Live
remote control: input nanoKontrol / output nanoKontrol
sync : input motu mkII / output motu mkII
midi clock on
External Sync Switch (EXT) on or off, it doesn't work either

Boss
midi rx ch 1
midi omni on
midi tx ch rx
midi sync AUTO
midi pc out on
modi cc out on

Motu mkII
Clock source INTERNAL (i can choose betwen: S/PDIF - WORD CLOCK IN - ADAT 9pin - ADAT optical - SMPTE - device name -mac biult in)

Please, i hope u can help me, cause i've many ideas, but i'm new about midi)

In order to keep the RC-50 sending sync info one loop must always be playing. Only solution i've found is to blank patches 2 and 3 on the loopstation then turn down the volume on patch one, record silence or a new loop onto patch one then turn back up again. Might sound awkward but its the only solution i know of.

hey,
i have been having this destroy my rehearsal time for ages now and am considering just recording everything into ableton to perform live.

i few things i have picked up:
sack of midi syncing it and just set the tempo the same on each instrument then use lives tempo slow down or speed up to make minor adjust ments during performance.
rc-50 hates having its tempo turned off…put it on very low ie.2
