MP3 or Aiff?

Not long ago I ran a Live project which had about 60-70 full separated components of tracks. Although these files all play sequentially mixing in and out of each other. I found that Live seemed to really struggle. There were no plugins at all. All of these parts were full 7+ minute long components in full quality AIFF. Whilst rendering some new parts this evening it dawned on me. Would it be more beneficial to render these parts at 320MP3s to relieve the disk access in Live or would it not make a difference?
