Syncing din sync device to ableton midi clock using MSY2

Hi Y'all,

I am trying to sync a 606 to ableton's midi clock and have the 606 connected to the doepfer MSY2 sync box with a din sync cable. The midi coonectiions of the Doepfer are conected to the MIDI port of my audio interface. I have tried both SYNC IN and SYNC OUT settings on the 606. I have also reversed the in and out plugs just to be sure and nopthing works.

This midi port works fine when I use a straight MIDI connection with a midi device. I have the doepfer connected via power adapter as recommended and the light is on like it should be. This might not be the best place to troubleshoot this becuase it's probably not an Ableton issue, but wanted to ask in case someone has used a similar setup and has suggestions. I consulted the Ableton manual to make sure I am setting up an external device correctly so that seems okay. Any clues?

I'm not an expert on din sync but don't you have to have a special midi cable to do it? most midi cables are supposed to be 5 pin (I think) but these days most midi devices don't use one of the pins so it's usually not even connected through the cable, they just put the pin there for asthetic purposes.

I'm sure someone can fill you in more than that as I'm sure I don't have all the info.

I have a din sync cable from the 606 to the din connection on the box. I have a reular midid cable that I use for other devices connected to the midi connections on the box. I'v heard people caution about using special cables but I thought that meant that a midi cable shouldn't be connected to the din sync connections.
