Who has some hot and chunky and crispy and slippery new synths to reccommend to me??
Every hot new track i hear these days reminds that its time to update my VST folder. From the 4 freeware synths that I currently have.
by the way is there any more of you out there that mash synths up with a rack of audio effects most of the time as oppossed to tuning them?
talk to you later, thanks!

On a Mac?
Get Logic Express... You'll get a ton of instruments and effects...
$200
Or you could get one of those Prophet 08's...

Zebra
Massive
Absynth
Reactor
PPG Wave
Symptohm
The only "new" one is Massive, but really, I can't be fucked into buying 9000 variations of a virtual analog VI, I would rather get things that work well as VI, and get real analog, like the Evolver, Voyager, and Prophets.
Virtual wavetable synths sound great though, and why Zebra, PPG, and Massive are fun.

If you want some analog-esque warmth, give the arturia synths a go. I have the cs-80v, the 2600v, the moog modular-v, and the minimoog-v, and they all sound great.
The modular is the most flexible and cpu hungry,
the mini is the simplest, but has the classic minimoog sound,
the cs-80 is capable of some gorgeous pad sounds among other things,
and the 2600 can create some fantastic sound effects, and some really great funky sounds.
The most unique and interesting is probably the cs-80 if thats what you're after, but if you want more info, check out
http://www.arturia.com, or post here with more questions.
If you want someting more digital, go for some of the other suggestions, or if you feel brave, try Reaktor.
