Tips to record vocals???

Greetings people of the world,....

I'm in a situation where I need to record some male and female vocals for a demo I'm working on. As an instrumentalist, all my tracks sound ace, but I have no idea what to do with the vocals. I tried the preset audio effects for vocals, but they didn't work all too well.

What Ableton effects do you use on your vocal tracks for a nice universal vocal sound? (Something like "pretty PJ Harvey singing in a concert hall" as opposed to "Shirley Manson singing underwater, high on helium.")

Any ideas are appreciated.

Hiya

I don't use many effects on my vocals if I just want them to sound fairly normal, except I do tend to use the reverb ones a bit.

Audio Effects, Reverb, and especially the Warm Reverb Long one. I find that one gives a not too obvious effect.

use a decent mic, and try to avoid a bad-sounding room.
you need to ensure the recording sounds ok before adding any effects, then maybe add a bit of reverb, maybe some eq, compression
