Using a refurb Macbook right now. Just bought it last week, and its the latest 2.4 Mhz model. The case is brand new, everything works perfectly, and it kicks the crap out of my old powerbook 1.5! Go for it, as I see it, a refurb get more inspection time than factory one, so I trust it more! They replace everything visible to look brand new. If you buy the most current model available, how old could the parts be?

I just bought a refurbished macbook pro about 3 weeks ago. It looks like new, completely mint. It's a 2.5 core two duo. The other possibility was to just get the macbook standard and upgrade it to 4gb ram and a 7200rpm drive for the price of the macbook pro. The black ones look very tasty, too. However, I really like the case on the macbook pro, along with the backlit keyboard - a really nice touch - so I went for this in the end. The performance is excellent. I say go for it. I will always buy refurb now.

mac refurbs rock. I actually prefer them to new because often the issues are already worked out because it has undergone inspection that the new units aren't subject to. I've had 4 refurbished macs over the years. I've only had a problem with one of them but I sent it back and was sent another within days. Plus you get a year warranty, so why not?

I just got mine - a 15 inch MPB refurb.
21% off retail price from apple store
Very happy with it - best of all it came with 4 Gb RAM instead of the 2 Gb it was advertised at!

I was always told that refurbished was good because yeah, they check everything and it's basically brand new except much much cheaper. Sounds pretty awesome eh?

The only thing you need to be careful about when buying a refurb from Apple is that you're getting a good price. Sometimes the discount they give on discontinued models isn't that good and it would work out better buying the latest model brand new.
There are better times to buy refurbs as well, I was checking their website for a few weeks until a really good deal came along and then I bought on the spot. The entire MacBook line is due for an update really soon and you can normally get good deals around updates.
