ever been banned from using ableton?
here's the story: i won a mix contest recently for a slot supporting a night in the uk with deadmau5 headlining.
fantastic i thought and started preparing my set for the big night...until tonight when the manager of the club informs me that deadmau5's agent won't allow any other ableton set-up on the night, only cdj's.
i ask him why a warm-up set sever hours before the main act will cause a problem and inform him the set-up will be tidied away before deadmau5 appears. but he won't budge, stating deadmau5 dosen't want anyone else using ableton when he performs!
have you guys ever heard such bs before? now i'm forced to use cdj's or i can't play

Very strange... Deadmau5 used to be on this Forum, too... but haven't seen him for a longer while.
As you I thought that he might be afraid of a total chaos, but maybe it's more about not "stealing the show". While this isn't bound to the software you use, it should be clear who's the warmupper and who's the main act. But by restricting the equipment...?
Well... if you want the gig at any case, play with the cdjs. I like to play CDJ sets, but of course this is totally different. For a warmup, it's OK for me... just play a couple of cool records, don't look like you're expecting a lot of people on the dancefloor.
Maybe that's the reason: If you play an Ableton Live set, it looks too much like you're expecting to be peak time, not "just the warmup", which is just dropping a few records and get the audience into music.

I can't see how that kind of demand works out..
what would be next.. the head liner plays guitar,, so the support can't???
I'd say this has more to do with some dimwitted promoter than it does with the head liner..
Try contacting deadmou5 maybe, or his management???

What just came into my mind:
If I was the responsible person at Ableton, I would never ever add an artist to the artist section of the homepage if he/she had such things in the booking contracts. Even if he/she was like Michael Jackson on a 303.
