I'M SICK OF IT

I am sick of the fragility of computers on stage. Whenever I play live I can't fully enjoy it because of the fragility of it...

two issues here: heat and vibration

and macs and pcs are totally the same here

I mean, harddrives are so 1980

I hope compact flash will become more widespread as a hdd replacement

I think I will go MPC when playing live

Who plays MPCs live?

Hip Hoppers?...

Now serioussly...heat and vibration are an issue not only for computers but a lot of equipment. What I did to remedy this was getting a cooling pad and a music stand for my laptop, this way whenever I play my lappie is as cool and stable as always... :D

Solid state drives are already available. Still kinda expensive, but if you don't need a big one they should be in the "buyable" prize category.

I'm not sure what good an MPC is live, except for pad-whacking sample trigging.

ARE YOU A CHICK

I am not a ... chick

if I play live, I want to jump around and not worry about my system crashing

an MPC doesn't crash when shaken

maybe not. but don't kid yourself, they do crash.

the mpc is still a computer.

That said, i performed with a mpc as the heart of my setup for 5 years and it only crashed once on stage. but, y'know what? live has never crashed on stage for me. maybe that's just luck.

Same here, only thing that led to a restart is fucking USB and USB drivers for MIDI and audio hardware. Hardrives, and the system itself are fine. USB on the other hand..... blah.

Some info on Solid State Drives -maybe a time table is included in this article (or in the thread) -I confess I haven't read the whole thing.

That's a valid question.

I guess the question is how many of these can you fit in a bag and which one is the spokesman:
