Whats the best myspace alternative? (Just finished my album!

Hey folks,
Just about to release my debut album.... Written, mixed, recorded, everything in Ableton! :D
(I did get it professionally mastered, but only cos I couldnt do it myself.)
It was kind of like one of my rules.... only ableton, only instruments I had to hand, only stuff I could play/sing myself. Its turned out really well.
Im just finishing the art, and want to put a website on the cover.
My first instinct was to start a myspace for myself, but then I thought.... maybe things have moved on a bit since I was last trying to promote something?
I know ive seen some pretty good musician/band focused sites, but I cant for the life of me remember what any of them were called.
I don't have the time, money, or skill to get a website of my own up and running, so its gotta be something like myspace... like a premade template type thing for technologically retarded people like me.
Another reason for looking for an alternative site, is that I can't seem to register on myspace.... even if I wanted to.
The security (warped) code that you have to type in to create an account keeps telling me that im putting in the wrong letters/numbers... even though ive done it like 10 times now and theres no way im putting em in wrong.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Jesso

if you're going the myspace-ish route you should open an account on myspace AND the alternative(s)

virb.com is the other one.

maybe a vimeo.com & youtube.com account too.

man throw big net, man catch many fish.

Check this e-book out:

http://newmusicstrategies.com/ebook/

while over there, you should check the rest of his site too. There are some truly great posts.

I really recommend you get a site of your own. If you really can't afford hosting, this article shows a good alternative:

http://www.audiblehype.com/diy/entry/th ... tion_plan/

Still, you should really look into buying your own domain name. You can use it to redirect to your blogspot page, it's not too expensive (9.99 for a year on godaddy.com, you can get codes at some sites for discounts. eg: http://www.soccergirlincorporated.com/) and it gives you a far better branding than yaddayadda.blogspot.com.

But you should get your myspace page sorted because that is still most people's first stop whether it's after hearing a song or seeing a live performance. The alternatives hardly touch the exposure that myspace gives you.

Why? It's not even what he's asking.

1. Membership is by invitation only

2. It's for sending and receiving files, not promoting music

I would recommend something more music-oriented like soundclick, acidplanet, and although I've never personally tried it, amiestreet.

There's a zillion more out there like them.

for me the soundcloud is the best way to promote music.
