Add MIDI control to External Instrument!

The External Instrument device is great. It would be amazing if you could add your own software controls to it, and then assign them to whatever CC you need to send to your device. It would be like your own little synthedit.

You mean for example, if I'm controlling an external synth, and I could create a knob to send "CC #17" or something? Nice- I can think of several uses for a feature like that.

Yes please, also please add this to external audio effects. I have an M-300 reverb unit with stereo in/out and MIDI control, it'd be great to add knobs, sliders, and PRESETS for CC and note values.

very important, i agree with that! i wonder, why they didn't do that - the concept could be just the same as with the macro controlls for groups.

I have an Eventide h8000a (ADAT/Lightpipe) that would have the life breathed back into it if I had this feature!
I have already mapped this as an external device which is fantastic! But unlimited external midi output would just be the bees knees.
I bought this unit several years ago and Eventide _still_ have not incldued any useful remote control software for it. All they are coming up with is a RTAS controller which only works on the FireWire version.
Ableton I think you would really make a lot of friends with this feature.. People might actually start using some of those wasted 16channels their sound card have by enabling ease of use in a 'plugin' style control via CC values!
Would totally upgrade to ableton 8 just for this reason!

would love that too, but live's midi system will probably choke on the extra data.
my guess is that their midi implementation is still maturing and they don't want it too handle too much stuff at this time.

i don't have any audiohardware. but i'm routing midi often from one pragramm to an other thru midiYoke. i'm sure it will be usefull someway.
i just startet to do visuals and i want to controll the visuals over live-clips. perheps i can use it there.

Here too,
The way I thought it could be implemented is as a MIDI effect, with simply a bunch of controls (say, 8?) that you can then assign to CC's or even RPN/NRPN's. This could be added as an insert effect before the External Instrument or before any other plug-in (like VSTs) that respond to CC's. If you need more controls, just add more of them!
I use Live with Reason over Rewire, and I like everything controlled from Live, including any remote overrides on the Reason instruments, but now I have to use the feature of my control surface to send custom CC's. This way, I could have them drop in with a preset and map any remote control to them using Live's mapping feature.
This wouldn't work with external effect, though, because that thing doesn't accept MIDI input like the external instrument does. Perhaps a second track?
It's funny that there are MIDI Effect Rack presets to do drum remapping but this thing they didn't think of.
