Cops stopped my party

So, I spent all last week preparing for a party outside of town that my band played and I DJ'd at. Nothing incredibly loud, and we talked with the nearest neighbors and they were cool with it. Around 1am the cops show up and force us to turn it waaaaaay down, until there was little point in continuing with the music. This has happened at the last 5 or 6 parties we've organized here, and we've had them in locations far outside of town, to no avail. It's really really frustrating to put so much work into something only to have it ruined because someone couldn't go one night without perfect quiet. I don't understand how someone could call the police because they can hear a kick drum one night...I could understand if it was all the time, or even more than once a year, but for one night it just blows my mind how shitty people can be. Fortunately the cops didn't try searching anyone or anything dumb like that....
So, I'm done throwing parties and hoping the cops don't get called, but I'm not sure how else to do it other than starting early in the day and getting a noise permit, which expires at 11pm I think. Anyone have any similar experiences and/or solutions?

Yep - you get a cool film at the end of it, plus the neighbours get some cultural education... it's win-win

This is usually handled by having a couple of local cops on the pay roll working the door. The better you pay, the longer they stay away.

if you can pull this off, be sure to try to covertly film it. make copies of the film, and include storage in areas the police cannot get to. mail the cops a copy and explain there are multiple copies, and you might not need to pay them anymore

It was the only way things were pulled off in the hay day of the electronic scene down here. It was filmed numerous times by different entities and aired on the news numerous times. Be cautious of those party goers who show up in full costumes.

How about Having NWA's "Fuck The Police" on stand-bye the whole night, so if you gotta close the show, do it with some class...

I was at a small psytrance party in a club in San Francisco a couple years ago. Around 5:30 am the bar staff started asking the DJ to wind down the music. 6 am rolled around and the music was still going, now the manager is asking the DJ to stop the music...the Dj acts like he is doing something, but another 15-20 minutes go by and we're still rocking out. 6:30 and there are 3 cops asking the Dj to stop the music... DJ nods agreeably. At 6:45 the owner of the club is there demanding the music stop, which the DJ nods agreeably to. By 7 am there is a crowd of cops, manager, owner, and several irate people around the DJ, who finally starts fading the music ever so slowly, and finally it's gone.
I always think of that DJ as the right kind of spirit for parties....defiantly keeping it going for as long as possible before things get out of hand. Killer.

As long as you don't care about ever throwing a party or playing there again, go for it.

So far I like the idea of paying off cops pretty well, although this won't really work for us right now since we're not even breaking even when we set up these shows. I'm thinking that just starting early and trying to work within the system is our best bet...we'll see. I wish we could just buy a permit that lets us make noise as late as we want, even if it was $200 or something. Not like these are crazy parties or anything, just music going on later than bedtime.

funny....quite relevant
I was arranging a street party/live show... for Sunday...(it's a holiday here)
got all the gear arranged from various sources..
(PA,drums,guitar/bass amps, mics,decks...)...
in this specific street where my buddy lives...
which is a pretty isolated place in the center of town..
ideal for this sort of thing...
there are 4 other neighbours...young people....
no old folks...
anyways... I went over to invite the neighbours..
and try to 'bribe' them with free booze...everyone was cool
except one guy (who owns a bar nearby)
...said that he will call the cops on us if we set this up...
it was supposed to be fun...
...sucks
I got 6 good bands that wanted to play for free...and I was going to play as well
FUCKER....he thought that he would sell less booze in his bar if we had the party...
anyways... I'll party anyways ...and less than a hassle for me ...
but it was supposed to be pretty sweet...
my point is... there are assholes worldwide...
he's got something coming... what goes around comes around...
cheers.

hmm,
over here we can have free parties from ten in the morning to ten in the evening without problems, legal. Illegal parties are another thing, depends on where you set it up and on the mood of the cops.
But then we have outdoor *clubs* with a permit all night long inside of the city too.
Oh, this is germany im talking about...
