I really want to get hold of this but how?

Only version 2 is out which I heard was rubbish and to avoid.

This is from memory (so it could be wrong) but I seem to remember that when version 2 was originally released it was only released as a 'high quality' version, and therefore was way more CPU heavy than version one and got criticised for that.. so they released another less cpu heavy version alongside the version 2 thereby keeping both camps happy. so when you buy it now you get two different plugins.. one you can use all the time, and the other which it is suggested you leave using until mixdown because of the addn. latency associated.
I really like it, and use it on about half the tunes I write, although if I had the money again I would probably opt for their Neon Limiter which is much 'cleaner' and more 'transparent' apparantly

I have Vintage Warmer 2 and it´s only one version you get, but you can switch on the FAT Mode. Here a quote from the manual:

Setting this switch to FAT engages PSP Audioware’s proprietary Frequency Authentication Technique (FAT)
algorithm. This is the same high quality algorithm we introduced with our mastering processors, PSP
MasterComp, PSP MasterQ and PSP Neon. When this switch is set to FAT, PSP VintageWarmer 2’s sounds
even more analog-like, with less aliasing artifacts when the VintageWarmer is driven hard into distortion. Keep
in mind, however, that FAT mode uses more than double the CPU resources the same settings in standard mode
uses.

Also they introduced a Brickwalllimiter as a new feature (which i don´t use).
I think Vintage Warmer isn´t cpu hungry (at least on my duocore2 machine) and sounds very good. There is a demoversion available, so best would be to give it a try.

I'm still using VW 1 , Version 2 caused low level but audible crackles on my system. Vw is one of my all time favourites, but it's about colouring the signal, if you are searching for something more neutral there are better plugs out there.

Go with something better that hammers the PSP like Magix AM VST suite.

I love Vinatage Warmer 2... this is not CPU heavy at all for me.

This has ended up on many of my tracks. It does exactly what you'd expect... It adds great warmth.

The switch for FAT is almost always on when I use it, and again no problems.

They offer demo versions too, that you should download.

As a rule of thumb, you should always do the demos, since occasionally a certain plugin might not work perfect on your machine. It only took me once to learn this lesson... of course, via the hard way.
