Hi

I know that playing a song through MP3 format kills the song and loses warmth and brightness but something is puzzling me.

My WAV version sounds excellent, the levels are right, everything seems to be spot on, then i upload it to myspace www.myspace.com/paulcoyles and it sounds muffled and the hats sound so shit its unreal (which they dont on WAV. so how is it when i listen to other peoples Myspace tunes they still have that brightness and warmth? they are using the same format but dont seem to be losing anything !

What am i doing wrong here?

Your first problem is that you are using myspace. No matter what you do, you won't get anything that sonds good from there.

Bu you can try converting to an mp3 before uploading, using some good converter. I recommend something based on the lame-encoder (not iTunes og WinMediaPlayer) and then uploading. It seems to me the tracks sounds better that way.

But anyway: Do no expect anything good from myspace!

Nice tunes! Did you try converting wav to mp3 locally on your computer first and see if that sounds bad already? Just to identify whether it's wav->mp3 or myspace which is the culprit...

What bitrates are you converting to? Doesn't myspace only accept like 24kbps?

All good points, I do convert to MP3 before i upload to myspace, i will listen to see if its the converter turning them to shit.

I wish I didnt have to use Myspace, but i have to start somewhere !

Hi, I am currently using I tunes to convert from Live files, aiff, wav,to mp3.Would be grateful if someone could explain how to increase the 160 kbps rate that i get with I tunes.I missed out on entry to the dirty bird remix contest due to not being able to achieve a bit rate of 320kbps.Do i need extra software?I am just using intel macbook 2 ghz,and live7. Thanks

In iTunes u go to preferences, find import and then find a button at the quality saying somthing like 'other'... There u chose 320 kbs and true stereo :D

Soundcloud just came out of beta. I suggest using them to host music. They are very good and have an excellent player. and the preference setting in iTunes is called custom...

it's been a while for me, but doesn't myface accept .wav uploads? If they do then that will BY FAR give you the best quality - they decompress and recompress if you upload a compressed format.

haha, i asked basically the EXACT question you did awhile ago in regards to mp3s on myspace. One thing that has improved my quality is using WMA's at higher bitrates.

Interesting! WMA usualy s*ck.... Well I can't get anything that sounds half as good as a lame encode mp3, for same bitrates!

myspace only accepts files under 10Mo...

try making a 2min sample of the best part of your tracks, the turn it to 240K mp3 and then upload to myspace, you get better results.

it's the same for me, my mp3 sounds OK on my system, then it sounds crappy on myspace.

the snapdrive host player is good too.

cheers

myspace converts to 96kbps which is shit. HOWEVER... Anyone using RealPlayer can rip tunes from myspace, so it's a good thing for you that anyone ripping it will only get a shit copy.

If you're still wanting better quality then don't use the myspace player and install a Flash player on to your space. (google "flash music player")

shit mp3's

It could be down to the programme you are using to convert wav -to mp3 that is causing the problem?

Can you not upload wav to myspace? i imagine if not that is a size of file issue right?
