I have crashes with Live 6.10 under OSX while no problems under XP!
Why? Is it OSX?
I have done a large project with 6.10 on XP and it didn't crash, but now it does under OSX 10.5.
Don't know what to do and which to contact. Return to XP maybe?
Using MacBook Pro with 4 gig ram!
I am a pro, need it for work.

I have posted it on my popular Dutch blog:
http://www.marcoraaphorst.nl/2008/10/16 ... onder-osx/
Is OSX the main factor? Why is Live 6.10 under XP stabel and under OSX not???
I have updated to Live 7 some time ago and had a crash the second time I runned it under OSX.
Reason 4.01 under OSX is rock solid stable though so I guess there's something in Live which is not right.

Hi raapie,
you can write an email with your crash.log included to
[email protected].
Find the crash.log here:

Hi!
I have not seen this. I have MBP with 4GB ram, 15", 2.4GHz Santa Rosa (the one that came about 1 year ago).
However, I have found that one reason for many crashes has been any Kontakt Player 2 -based product. This used to be worse when dragging tracks with these players, but it's better now.
Also, there is a major bug in .10 that makes Live crash when you move any track with "External instrument" loaded in it. This is solved in beta1, so if this is your issue, please download the beta and your issue gets solved.
One more bug I've found is if you happen (by any chance) to be using two instances of Garritan Steinway in one project. This makes Live crash randomly. I've reported the bug to the manufacturer of the player and it should be solved later. Temporary solution is to freeze one of these players. Anyway, I think this isn't what you're having there....
But for me Live has been working extremely well, so it's probably something with your hardware or more likely some software plugin you use that doesn't work too well. A good way to test this is to eliminate any non-mainstream plugins in your set, first all of them and then see if it crashes. Then add them back one by one and see when the crash starts to occur. But guys at Ableton can see the plugin (if that's what's causing it) from the crash-log.

thanks posssu.
during the crash I wasn't using any 3rd party plugin. what I have installed is:
iZoptope Ozone3
iZoptope Trash
Native Instruments KOREplayer
None of these were active. I was using Reason in Combination with Live during the crash, Live crashed but Reason was still running.

if you're using OSX 10.4, could be "the airport bug". this is fixed in Leopard and the latest version of 10.4 if memory serves me correctly.
to test: just make sure airport is turned off. then open up Live and play and see if performance improves. if it does, then either update your OS or just keep airport off when recording/performing with Live.
good luck

Does your project crash when you're not using ReWire? I haven't used Rewire too much under OSX, so I can't tell about that, but just to test (again), try using your set without Reason running: if you can duplicate/isolate it, they can fix it!

the project didn't crash the next time I opened it, so I am not sure what's the cause. Ableton mailed me the following:
1) close Live and delete the files "preferences.cfg", "template.als" and "undo.cfg" which can be found here (if available):
/Users/your user name/Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live 6.0.10
2) repair the permissions of your hard disk by using the "disk utility" which can be found under Applications/utilities
I did that. Hope it won't crash again. I have been using Live since 1.5.

I had Live acting weird some weeks ago...not opening,crashing,etc... I repair permissions every week, and I, also, erase preferences from time to time...but...I tried resetting the PRAM and now it works fine again...
PRAM...hold Option+Command+P+R keys while booting...after you hear the starting chime twice...release them, restart again without pressing any key.

I just did all the things suggested here!
nothing worked...
live crashed always after the first minutes of use!
I remembered installing soundflower that afternoon. so first I thought it was soundflower, but it wasn't.
I found "massive" written somewhere in a crash log file... so I digged deeper, and found the solution at the native instruments forum:
In my case it was NI massive that crashed live!
I had to moove the sound database from NI/massive's application support folder to let it create a new one... that was the only thing that helped...
wheew... several houres of stress... g*o*n*e
stupid massive... I love it.. I hate it...
no seriousely... I love it... that's why all my songs use at least one... that's why all my songs crashed... strange enough live didn't crash when I used a new song with a fresh massive... only when I close live and reopen it stays only alive for several minutes...
well... gonna write this one down... maybe the same thing happens again, and I see no reason why it shouldn't ;-)
peace, maybe this helped?
back to music... finally!

tricky stuff warabunga, those plugins!
I have only 3 audio units in my live setup: iZotope trash, ozone & Nio FX rack for my soundcard. should be safe. won't install anything else. on my XP setup I have lots of plugins I must say. the plugin format is not stable enough I guess.

Marco, you can always send me a copy of the Live set that is crashing, I can check it out with Live 7.0.10...
