So what's your opinion on this today? How has it changed from yesterday? Where do you see yourself and firewire 5 years from now? 10 years?

You have to post in the previous threads of people get mad. I got yelled at for it.

I'm not outraged today, but then again I wasn't before either. However, a new source of outrage potential may have presented itself: Rumor has it that the new macbook PROs are back to using the agere chipset - which of course means that they will probably work only slightly better for firewire audio than the firewireless non-pros anyway.
So rage away, unwashed masses.

Yeah I saw that. But your post started like 12 hours ago. Now is completely different. I want to give people the opportunity to rehash what they posted in 10 other similar threads. A few more weeks of this and I think we'll have a pretty solid single thread we can all agree on from both sides of the table. We'll make a poll on which thread truly represents the community.
I'm going to write in firewire for president in November. It's just that important.

lol at this thread...I'm sure it will fill up quick - give whiners a place to do their business, and they'll pour out of the woodwork to do so, I'm sure.

Mac users had a bad enough name before this, now we just look like a complete and utter bunch of twats. I'd like to think we'll see the end of the FireWire debate some time soon but I can see this one running and running, unfortunately.

Mac users need and deserve better treatment than they have received from a company they have invested time, money and faith in.
Firewire is the STANDARD for audio interfaces. Whether USB2 is the new standard for video is debatable but the fact that Apple control most of the pro audio market shows they either goofed, or just don't care about alienating a huge chunk of their userbase. Apple want to isolate a market they control, produce market leading programs (Logic, etc) in and so on. It makes no sense. But if the debate does end today, then you can be sure that Apple will maintain their ridiculous decision and that will definately lead to sales going to Dell, HP, Toshiba, Lenovo etc, because unless they are going to introduce a MBP for sub 1500 dollars, (shaving 300-400 off the current prices), many casual users and DJs looking for a cheap machine to take to clubs with will go elsewhere.

I bought my daughter a macbook a month ago, so the decision to get rid of the FW port made me glad I got the old one, and not the new one. No way I would buy the new Macbook cause she likes to edit video and our video cameras are FW. The Macbook is plenty fast enough for her needs (and most home video editing) The new macbook is a sure 'no buy' for me without the firewire.

Nothing changed expect that I got a Macbook that has still 1 year of Apple Care to spare so I'm ok until Nov 2009. When I'll be there I'll take a look. My iMac 2008 as Apple Care until 2011 and I'm ok. I'm using the Macbook less these days but comes handy when iMac is in use for other matters. It's something I do not have to decide now. I would have liked a graphic card because I like working with blender but the current line lacks FW so I'm looking at USB2 interfaces. By judging from the answers to my other thread people here really have low or no experience with USB2 Audio.
So I'll wait.
