guitar/synth inspiration (MIDI+Whammy_EHX Microsynth)

Post by chrisedmo » Mon Oct 20, 2008 7:35 pm

I just got a Digitech Whammy and i love it, but i hooked it up to ableton via MIDI and sent some data to it...

That sounded good, but then i picked up my EHX Microsynth and had a play..

So, I have uploaded a rough (DI) recording of my messing around with this set up..

Its rough but i got really excited, and wanted to share my findings.. i love mixing software and hardware, and unorthodox things.. I think it sounds like a rough old synth.. i like it..

At the end i played something similar to Muse's Map of The problematique.. he uses a MIDI'd Whammy pedal in that song..

I bought an EH bass synth last week, that's an OK demo but it can get a LOT fatter. maybe I can put up a demo sometime this week.

dial up the sub bass and square wave, dial in the 2 freq sliders to the sweet spot (key part of using that box), fat. run that into a distortion effect and omfg P-H-A-T wall of sound.

I didn't really get how it was a synth, then I bought it, it truly is a synth, the bass is the oscillators.

btw its bypass mode is a tone sucker, it's not a true bypass.

yeah this was just the regular guitar one, and i backed of the Sub octave a little as it was not really working as i was DI'ing into my firebox.. started to sound a little flappy, especially when the whammy sent my guitar down an octave...

Just wanted to share really.. felt like i was really mangling my guitar..
