Anyone with a crystal ball: When's Live 8 coming out?

I'm pretty new to Ableton and want to buy it, BUT,
I'm wondering if there's some kind of precedent with new Live versions - it's been about a year since 7 came out, right? I know this is impossible to know for sure, but if I buy 7 now, what are the chances that in a few weeks Ableton announces Live 8 and I headbutt my keyboard in half?
Also, how far before a new version comes out do they typically announce it?
Just trying to get a feel to see if I should wait for 8. Or maybe wait until 8 comes to buy 7 cheaper. I'm in college and saving $200 is a big deal. Being able to make music in Live NOW, though, as opposed to in 3 months is a big deal too !

I would get a student discount and buy now. If live 8 comes before X-mas then you will most probably get a free upgrade. And if it comes later and you wait then you spend months waiting that you rather should make music with Live 7.

considering how long the public beta phases usually last, I think it's looking increasingly unlikely it will be this year, and considering there is a NAMM in mid January then it wouldn't surprise me if there is at least an announcement then - and when the announcement comes the free upgrades start
so if you also get a student discount I'd just get it now - you're right - 3 months could be long enough to write your platinum album!

shit, I was planning on it being released on Thursday...I suppose I'll have to spend that $119 on something else now...

Live 8 will be released 10h32:24sec AM to be precise! and that's with quantize off.
With the German precision and quantize on, it'll probably be released to the nearest hour...so 11AM.
