Tibook Usergroup

I feel a Tibook Usergroup would be helpful and an efficient way to collect information about Tibook specific issues with LIVE. LIVE seems to have struck a chord with Laptop users and the Tibook is (arguably) the Laptop of choice among musicians. If anyone else agrees (or disagrees), please add a reply to this string so we can get the Moderator's attention and petition for this addition. The FAQs mention that a member must volunteer to moderate it and I would be happy to help.

Sure. I use a TiPbook - it'd be useful having it all in one place.

that's funny as hell. i'm using Slowey's cousin; Outdatey, the 550. i think that would be a good idea though. although does that mean that everyone will want one too? ThinkPad usergroup, VAIO usergroup, etc. that might get silly and be a bit much to handle. if it doesn't work out i'm sure we could just build our own somewhere. I have webspace but my server doesn't support PHP and i think that's the easiest and cleanest way to do a board. anyone got a little space that takes PHP? we could use
http://www.phorum.org it's free and easy to use/install.

Hi tjwet,
I meant hosted here on Ableton's board. They have provisions for user's groups but no one has requested one yet. We could be the 1st. I thought it would be useful for their coders (I hope they have more than one) to monitor our discussions to get a feel for problems (or successes!) Titanium users are having. Check out the Usergroups button on this forum and the FAQs for it.

Sure, I'd be interested in such a group, though I must say so far I've not had much trouble from my TiBook & Live...

Just have a look at the FAQ!:::

"How do I become a Usergroup Moderator?
Usergroups are initially created by the board admin, they also assign a board moderator. If you are interested in creating a usergroup then your first point of contact should be the admin, try dropping them a private message."

So, the guy who will be the moderator, please step forward.

And, incidentally, I'd like to become a member too as I am a prospective TI user.

As for "slowy," the rev-2 TiBooks (550/667) had slow cache, so for audio stuff they were *slower* than the rev-1 TiBooks. A rather bad move on Apple's part. But the current (rev-3 667/800) PowerBooks are much better. They rock.

FWIW, I have a TiBook 550 (worst of the worst for audio) and I've been plenty happy with it. No performance issues in Live or Reason, though I may not be taxing mine as hard as others here.

I just emailed the Administrator with our request. I volunteered to be the moderator but if there is anyone who feels a special calling please step forward and I would be happy to let someone else do it. I am fairly familiar with Macintosh (my Titanium is my 3rd Mac) and I'm a Unix/Net Admin Student at a local college. What I don't know I can find out and of course Ableton will probably peek in on us from time to time.
I hope this encourages others to start Usergroups of there own on this board. It saves time hunting through the bulk of threads when you can zero in on your topic of interest.

i can't take credit for "Slowey" though. that was someone else. Mine is called "Outdatey". anyway, i guess mine is doing OK. it has it's hangups here and there like the "spinning beachball of death". i get a Kernal Panic pretty often which is bad but i found out it's because of my graphics tablet. other than that it works ok. i don't get many tracks in Live or Logic but this is also due to the slow HardDrive. i'm buliding a new studio and i'll be buying a new PowerMac setup so the Tibook will most likely be used only for live performance and site recording. i can't say i'm not disappoited with it. it was very expensive in comparison to it's performance and lifespan. i'm concerned that as we move into OSX territory less apps will be taking advantage of AltiVec. i know Live doesn't yet and i'm not sure about Reason2. my favorite thing about it is watching movies on the train to work.

twjett,

This puts me off the Ti big time... all I'd choose it for is reliability and, well, Power.....

and of course because I'm a Logic Windows user...

I hope the Ti Usergroup will go up soon because I will definitely do a lot more research.

FORMAT,
i didn't mean to turn you off of the PowerBook. it is a beautifully designed machine. the model i have(550)just happens to be the slowest one they made so i'm frustrated with that point. the newer PowerBooks(DVI) are very powerful. i guess mine has served it's purpose, i just get mad at it sometimes. in all honesty the PowerBooks are very nice machines if you care about looks, style, and a nice big screen. the new ones have plenty of power too. the price is very high but if you try the machine and love it you may think it's worth it. you may want to consider an iBook for live work since Live doesn't use AltiVec anyway. you'll get better performance for half the price. wait and see if Logic for OSX will use AltiVec. if not, i'd buy the iBook.
