Question about APC40 and Live's device parameters

Post by Ben_Binary » Wed Sep 09, 2009 6:43 pm

Are the Ableton Live device parameters meant to be setup as racks/macros to be able to see them like the 'configured' vst parameter list ?

If you are using the APC40 Device parameter control knobs >>>

How do you tell what (ableton device) parameters are mapped to each 'bank' of these 8 knobs?

There's no way to tell until you try it. They don't show in order like VST parameters in t he configuration view, so you just have to remember or write it down. It may be documented somewhere, but I'm not sure.

Yeah,
Well it automaps to the device but I gotta rack each device and use the macros to allow me to "configure" the ableton device parameters.
A list of parameters for my Live8 Suite instruments would be nice.
Sampler and Operator would be the first.
I could setUp a rack preset for Sampler/Operator n change the sampler/operator presets inside the rack with drag n drop or hotswaps...
So it looks like its easier to use vst's than Live's own plug-ins :|

IMO this is where the APC shows it's more for general studio control rather than a performance tool. something like the Remote SL where you can page through automapped parameters is what you'd want, not the APC.

So I guess neither the Remote or the APC40 can Automap the Ableton-Suite instruments
without using a system of Racks...

I haven't done it in a while but yes, they can. the APC can only do 8. the SL can do pages and pages worth.

don't have Live with me to check.

what's a Suite instrument? I just about all the shit without separating Suite from purchased from free.

The ableton devices automap fine. The parameters are just in a pre-configured order that you can't change. The order of parameters are logical though so they aren't that hard to remember.

But yes, there are many benefits to using VSTs over Live's internal devices. But of course it's at the risk of stability.

Don't you mean the risk of instability (almost typed unstability) Just joshin'.

nativeKONTROL.com Released this document on their apc40 portion of their forum to go along with the release of their apc add-on templates.
The apc nativeKontrol forum:
http://beatwise.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=apc
and the actual document:
http://www.nativekontrol.com/uploads/Li ... apping.pdf

This document is a list of ALL the native Ableton control bank settings as set by Ableton. The nativeKontrol apc templates do not change the default usage and settings of the apc40, they only add additional features that should have been included to begin with.

I asked if I could share it here and Stray said no problem.
The document is 23 pages of Ableton control bank settings... here is a sample.
