Ableton is NOT recognizing audio from Scarlett Focusrite 2i2 (Macbook Pro)

Post by densida » Sat Jul 08, 2023 9:26 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm having this issue where Ableton is unable to recognize audio input from my Focusrite interface. This is very frustrating since it was working fine a week ago and I have kept the settings exactly the same. The interface looks like it is receiving signals when I speak into the mic but no signal is showing in Ableton (small unresponsive green light). I have tried all possible solutions including the following steps:

- Turning Macbook on/off
- Given Live microphone permissions in settings.
- Changing different USB ports
- Reconnecting the Scarlett Focusrite
- Gains are turned up and phantom power is ON on the interface.

Specs:

Macbook Pro 2018 2.2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7

Graphics Radeon Pro 555X 4 GB

Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

RAM 16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4

OS Ventura 12.2.1

*My hands are tied at this point and I could not seem to find a solution anywhere online. Any help is greatly appreciated, guys. Thank you!

Could be a number of things so hard to be definitive but if you haven't already it's worth checking each part of the signal chain:
- the setup in Focusrite Control, especially the inputs/outputs ie is the 2i2 receiving a signal and is it routing the correct source to the outputs? Are there any new drivers for the 2i2?
- System Preferences > Sound on your Mac and see whether your 2i2 shows up here, and is it showing up in Audio MIDI Setup?
- Preferences > Audio in Ableton to check the 2i2 is selected and the input configs are right
- In Ableton are the track settings right? The correct Ext. In is selected and Monitor is ON (or AUTO and Rec is enabled)

When I've had issues in the past, most of the time it's been down to something happening with the Focusrite settings, or the input config in Ableton being wrong.

Hello, maybe this information is helpful for everyone with this issue.
I had the same problem using:
- Macbook Pro M2 - Sonoma 14.4
- Ableton Live 12 Suite
- Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 (3rd gen)
- Latest Focusrite Control Driver: 3.18

Ableton recognizes the Scarlett (in the INPUT settings) but it was impossible to record audio on a track. The Settings are correct.

After 2 days getting crazy, the problem was a bug in Ableton 12. On the rest of the programs it doesn't occur (like GargeBand... etc)
I want to report it to Ableton, but I didn't find the form to do it...

You need to:
- Go to MacOS Settings -> Sound
- In the MacOS Status bar will appear an orange MIC icon.
- TURN OFF the VOICE ISOLATION. Switch to STANDARD.
- Restart Ableton and it will works.

This same problem also happened to a few friends with Macbook + Ableton 12, so it's confirmed.

I hope this helps! :)

You need to:
- Go to IoS Settings -> Sound
- In the IoS Status bar will appear an orange MIC icon.
- TURN OFF the VOICE ISOLATION. Switch to STANDARD.
- Restart Ableton and it will works.

Just to be sure, this is in System Settings as this is on Mac not iOS... Voice Isolation is not the default setting in macOS...
