I'm recording a synth track with my joystick triggering a filter. Several strange things have happened.

At first the synth stopped making sounds after about 40 measures. I later re-recorded the entire track only to have none of my joystick commands record. I didn't make any major changes to my ...

About 7-8 weeks ago my Toshiba laptop was overheating and shutting down without warning. When i tried to troubleshoot I wasn't surprised to find my warrenty had expired 3 days before. I was ready to throw the darn thing out. :evil:

I'm a little out of my element as to the audio needs of a DJ, but you mentioned needing to monitor with headphones and some kind of audio card. How about the M-Audio FW1814? It has two headphone outs and a lot of functionality. Much more than your typical soundcard.
