Looks like I'm late to the party to notice the ver. 7 issues! See forum post:

Perhaps they mean that using the launchpad as a generic midi input device with 7 - rather than it's custom features that ship in the 'launchpad version 8 ...

It says that on the page there... however - I can't get my launchpad to work with ver. 7.
It works great with the stripped down 8 version that comes with it - but can't get any of my old work in to it because there are too many effects/clips.
A bit disappointing.
Hopefully they get it working ...
