Editing out music performance mistakes

Hi,

I am recording solo jazz guitar on Ableton so it is difficult to hid any performance mistakes. Rather than doing 50 takes to try and get a perfect performance, can someone tell me how to cut measures that are badly played from my track and paste in new measures from another take that have been ...

Thanks. These are the first couple of things I've recorded with Ableton, so I don't have a ready reference. In future, I will boost the Master volume and maybe use some effects to add to the gain. For the stuff I've already recorded, what's the best way to increase the volume mix?

Muddy tone

Thanks for your reply. I am using a Line 6 TonePort UX2 and recording directly to the computer without a mike. Do you think my results would improve by using a microphone going into the TonePort? Last question. What kind of microphone should I buy? Thanks again

Editing tone

I've just started using Ableton Live, basically to record solo jazz guitar pieces on my computer hard drive. The recorded sound I am getting so far is muddy. What is the easiest way to mix and edit a recording to achieve a very clear guitar sound.? Thanks very much
