They are more expensive than the pro-sumer pieces. But the quality level is also much higher and them some. You get big bang for you buck with these devices.

I fully understand, however, the need for a more cost effective solution.

Both FW ports are on the same bus, your bandwidth is limited. Getting an extra FW port via a card will actually get you a separate bus and plenty of bandwidth for more drives / interfaces.

If you're looking for a quality FW interface, I'd highly suggest the Metric Halo products.

I have a MBP with a Metric Halo interface and it works fantastic.

I run the Waves plugs on Live 6 no problem. There are in fact VST and AU versions of the plugs. The AU versions are even UB. The VST versions are not yet UB.

I got the same e-mail as well. Distrubing how information like our e-mail adresses was so easily obtained. Hopefully other info like our credit card numbers weren't misused as well.

I work with a few video people who mock FCP in it's most recent incarnations. These others think that Apple aquisitions might make the apps prettier, but not necessarily more innovative or functional for serious working professionals. And FCP does not have less bugs now either.

OS X has dynamic memory allocation. It will always leave itself enough headroom. On systems where there is less physical RAM it will use the hard disk to store the data. So physical RAM usage is relative to what is available on the system.

Run this test using the system monitor and notice the ...

OS X is a hog. It works great and looks pretty, but it's a hog.

You NEED 512 MB RAM for basic OS X operation. You need at least 1 GB (or more) if you're going to be running a DAW w/ FX, VSTi, etc, etc. These things take RAM.

Tribal's post was great.

Writing is on the wall folks. Apple / Emagic merger is not a good thing. :( Apple makes toy apps to sell Macs. I doubt that Apples invovlement has anything to do with improving pro audio. I think that can be evidenced by the number of new 'toys' and the lack of ...

The *best* analysis tool is Spectrafoo. MHLabs.com

WaveLab also has some analyzers.

The 'Inspector' from Elemental Audio is hard to beat - bang for buck value. Their other plugs are awesome too.

For good feild recordings you'll need some decent mics. I would suggest a matched pair of some sort of small diaphram condenser mics. You'll also need a pre-amp for those mics. Then you'll need a A/D converter / interface to get it into the computer.

I would suggest this:
MHLabs.com

They have some ...

I read the manual, but still can't get it...

I have a particular sample that I need to try and loop but I can't seem to get it working properly.

The sample is of a choir. It is an 8 bar passage. The words have 2 pick up notes on beat 3 & 4 before coming in on beat one. The loop ends on bar seven beat 2. So I need to figure out how to loop the ...
