Re: Music Theory Utility Version 2

I would expand the chords used.

I like this site to look at stuff that I forget. http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/ I always prefer to look at things in terms of the piano for some reason even though I started out playing g uitar/cello.

I agree. Fortunately I got all the hard work out of the ...

Music Theory Utility Version 2

Hi all

I've now upload a new version of my theory tool that has an improved keyboard and a second tab for figuring out chords. It still needs a bit of work but it's getting there...

I'm hoping to eventually make it a bit of a Swiss army knife of music theory, so the next tab I am planning is for ...

p.s. I love your song, Glass Slipper.
Thanks for that. In the time I've been playing with Ableton Live, The Glass Slipper is the only song so far that has come out the way I wanted.

Re: Music Theory Utility

Sorry to repeat myself a little but I wanted to make sure what I was saying was clear. Keep at it!

No need to apologise, I appreciate the help. :)

I think I have the naming better now - I believe I avoid any of the completely incorrect naming I had in the previous version. The trouble I think I ...

Re: Music Theory Utility

The biggest hitch I see with this is that there's no way to differentiate between enharmonically spelled pitches.

So I would suggest you look into a way to differentiate between enharmonic spellings, which means you have to add flat accidentals into the scheme and give the user some way to ...

Music Theory Utility

Hi all

I have recently been reading up on my music theory and my understanding is slowly starting to improve. As a result I began working on an online music theory tool. It's really only in the very early stages of development but I thought it might be good to share it with people here to get some ...

Re: Macbook Air

I've been using Live 8.2 on my Air for about 6 months now and so far it has been working pretty well. I have been using both the internal audio interface and a TC Helicon VoiceLive Touch USB interface without any trouble. It's an older Air (2.12 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB 1067 MHz DDR3) running Snow ...

Re: Is everyone using Live nowadays?

I've used quite a few different pieces of software for making music over the years and I personally feel that any slight difference in sound quality is a non-issue. The reality is that timeless classics were being written long before we had the crystal-clear digital recording equipment we have today ...

Re: Comping a vocal track

I can definitely see the advantages to having all the takes in parallel rather than serially along a single track. I guess the main difference is that you need to stop and start each take individually where I like to just kick back and hear them all one after another, as well as record multiple ...

Re: The Glass Slipper

Hi

Thanks for the feedback. I agree there is a lot of reverb on the vocal, much more than I would normally use but I was kinda going for that sound with this song. The frequency clashes I think are more of a problem. I added a high-pass filter to the bass and tweaked the levels, I'm hoping that ...

Comping a vocal track

Hi all

I notice people all seem to have different approaches to comping a vocal track (or any other type of live track for that matter) so I wrote up a short post about my personal approach here:

Does anyone have ...

The Glass Slipper

Hi all

This is a song I wrote recently about the moment the party is over. I was trying to capture a certain atmosphere but I think it still needs some extra high-end instruments after the last chorus - not sure exactly what to do there yet.
