apparently it splits between cores track by track

Not quite. Tracks do not necessarily get evenly split up between cores for processing. It is based on internal application processes that Live is executing at a given time. Effects and Instruments in Live do get split up between both cores ...

i'd encourage you to just try settings out, experiment.

Well, going back to the pdf guide, there are 40 templates and 4 of them are Automap on page 3. And in my previous quotes all 40 templates (which include Automap) based on their document can be edited.

where did you read that you can map ALL the controls to automap? I'm not doubting you, just talking shop. ;)

Here is another one from the same Getting Started Guide of SL, page 3, end of 1st paragraph.

All Templates can be edited on the unit ...

midi learn is a different protocol than automap, both use midi but from what I can tell the feature set of automap is set, what the limitations are, I don't know.

From here it's up to you to tweak around and see what happens. If you have the time/energy/drive, just put random stuff into the ...

looking at the above file, it doesn't look like SOLO is an automapped control, the automap feature set is decided and hard coded (my assumptions). MAYBE if you monkied around with 'out of the box' thinking you could play with the assignments and find a back door.

Well, I have done some reading ...

I haven't had time to check this out, seems pretty straightforward.

DeadlyKungFu, you are right! Most of it indeed seems straightforward.
I am still not very clear on it yet for mapping controls, yet.
Can you help me with one thing though.

Can you give me specific example of what I should ...

Re: Remote SL knobs instead of encoders script , it's workin

Hi,
wrote a little User Remote Script that allows the knobs of the Remote SL to be used in automap ... alongside the default automap sliders, buttons , encoders ...

m-re, this one is to use SL knobs instead of encoders.
Can you tell me in specifics, how do you go about adding new controls ...

Re: Another Remote SL question (OS2)

Has anyone been able to get the Tap Tempo button to do anything ?

(Is there a Novation forum anywhere? (None on their web site.))

Does not work. According to sl documentation, it should have work.
Neither are there any buttons mapped to solo in AutoMap.
Not sure why they have left out so many ...

It would be a nice visual to see an A/b comparison btw the two CPUs running live, has this been posted here? I am wondering how big of a difference the core2duo makes.

Not two separate cpu's but a similar sort of test reported in SOS.
Live 6 review in Nov 06 issue of SOS has tested Live6 using a ...

Glad I could be of some assistance!

Maybe somebody should publish and maintain a list of undocumented AutoMap functions for live 6 with sl.

Re: novation sl automap question

is it possible (or will it be in the future) to select tracks/devices by using the sl's automap so I won't have to reach for my mouse every time I want to edit an other instrument/effect on the sl?

I bumped into what looks like a quick way of selecting devices in sl with automap, I believe ...

I did some reading on sl automap for pro-tools. Besides a tight integration, it includes solo functions as well, mapped within sl's automap template. So it appears that solo function mapping is possible with automap. Not sure if there are exceptions when it comes to different combinations of DAW ...

Thanks for the post. It's interesting. Sounds like it's getting warmer now.
In specific, as a starter, I am after mapping buttons to solo function and adding ti to an existing template as a starter. Don't know how, yet.
